I want to get Neotel but i use the net mainly for gaming..how does Neotel perform on gaming? no BS please Contract is not something i enjoy

Thanks :)

It doesn't perform... The only game I managed to play OK on Neotel is TrackMania range of games.
Basically because those games work on TIME and not really anything else.

I'd stay away from Neotel... been there, done that, will avoid like a rash.

I heard the ping is absolutely shyte, for gaming ADSL is the best, 2nd best I think is iBurst

it is rubbish for gaming, I still havent managed to connect to PSN :(

sorry i dont get it maybe tell me more /sarcasm lol thanks guys!! :)

Well, I was on the NeoFlex 10GB package and I had no problems connecting for games. I use a PS3 and had a constant link to the PSN, no time outs. I've now upgraded to WiMax (for free!) and the speed is amazing. solid 2.1 Mb/s connection and games like MAG, Grand Theft Auto and various downloadable online games work brilliantly. My ping time to the PSN server is 47, not sure what that means but I'm told its good.

I had the Neotel prime unlimited.

When playing WoW my latencies would occasionally spike up to 3000 ( at worst ).

When playing COD:MW, my latencies would occasionally spike up to 800 ( on local servers ), making it damn unbearable and really frustrating.

Having a connection which randomly disconnects ( especially when you are waiting to join a server after waiting a while ) is not fun. Also I had to write a batch file that runs every 30 minutes to ensure my connection is still active.

But besides all this mentioned here, the fact that their service is utter pigsh*t , their billing department staff are McDonalds rejects and above ALL mentioned here........read the Neotel forums on this site. It will reveal all.

LOL on the McCrappy rejects. You can check my other thread about Omar the amazing Credit Controller. Dumb ass. Had to get a fukcccn screenshot of the CRM application screen to get my outstanding balance from them as the PDFs all reflected as "R0 outstanding"

I use to punt Neotel a lot and joined them the week we got coverage in Somerset West. That was two years back and it just went from good to worst. I'm back on Telkom and promised I will never speak bad of them again.

What setup u had(external antenna)? and where were u?

I had neoflex last year and played tf2 online on local servers with an average ping of +-80ms. So it wasn't all that bad. I guess I was lucky.

For gaming DIGINET will be the best, but that comes with a lekker price tag.

list is like this, following latencies to MWEB's Kalahari.mweb.co.za server.

1. Diginet - 6ms
2. ADSL 4mb - 8-10ms, lower line speed and latency also increases (Tried and tested)
3. Wimax (Tested Telkom's) works awesome - 30ms
99. Neotel Prime (un)limited - 300-1000ms.

All this has been tested by me, and the above list is the result.

....also to add to the fact that Neosnot doesnt give a chutney-flavoured-rat-f**k about its residential consumers.

I would rant on and on about Neok@k, but unfortunately I wasn't born with enough middle fingers

Neobroadband WiMax for gaming will work fine. Uncapped/Unshaped/ Low Latency, connects to there Fibre not through there 3G service.

AFIAK its not 3g but an CDMA, but wireless is never ideal for gaming

Neotel is not for gaming, you experience repeated lag outs.

I was on neotel prime and cancelled and got cell c HSPA+ (obviously like you I don't have access to adsl). I would suggest you get the cell c HSPA+ if you have coverage but only if you can't get adsl access.

Neobroadband WiMax is not CDMA. It is WimAx that connects to a BaseStation which is connected to the Fibre Structure. The latency etc that you will achieve will be close to or even better than ADSL.
Download and Upload speeds are the same therefore ensuring quick speeds.

What Wimax is>>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiMAX ( As you will read, it is an alternative to CDMA and used to deliver High speed /High Capacity connections)

I never said Wimax was CDMA....
