And why do we have only one cable may I ask? It is because everyone has been fart-@rsing around. AG shame they only have one cable, poor government can't afford another...hell they have so many problems to deal with just give them a break. Maybe we can afford to let our country hang in the balance while we sit and debate etc etc etc...so on and so forth.

The mere fact that Neotel has imposed a cap proves they are adopting Telkom logic, or that there is something wrong and needs to be fixed NOW!!!!!

You guys all allow your own fate to pass :/ I can see it now 2009 Cable near completion stage! then in 2020 someone on these forums asks, "Whatever happened to that cable?" Someone else says, "Dude Rome wasnt built in a day, give them some time!!". And all this while no one really complains and Neotel become the next Telkom and scheme hell there is no demand so why spend money.
Im not saying lets all now blame Neotel for our problems, I am just saying don't be complacent. Try get them to realise there is demand for better NOW!, we are fed up.
This should actually be applied to more than just Neotel but it would be a good place to start. They have customer services, they can handle complaints...not ag shame.

The easiest way to pressure them is to not take their service and pay them unless you're happy with it. I doubt they care whether you complain about them in a forum if you're still paying them R500/month or more.

Exactly why Telkom doesn't care. The only way they'll wake up is if everyone starts leaving them. Since Neotel's coverage is still so small telkom don't have a worry.
Once Neotel starts getting some decent coverage area and people actually switch to them, Telkom will feel the pinch.

It means that they only have access to the SAT-3 cable, as everyone has said.
They are in fact building (well, helping too) a new cable NOW!!!
There isn't much more you could expect from them right now. Moaning about the government doesn't changing anything for Neotel, it's the wrong thread to be moaning in.
I always fail to understand why I, as a customer, need to make excuses for telecoms companies.
I, and many others here, want the best we can get...If we complain loud enough then maybe somebody will hear us and give us a product we want.
If you want us to stop asking for the best then stop listening.
What's the average usage in SA? 2, 3GB? Would it be much higher if it was uncapped? Probably not, I'm not talking about forumites, I mean the rest of the population that checks email and does internet banking, maybe reads the news online etc. They're by far the majority. If you provided a reasonably cheap uncapped product you could probably still do reasonably well because 95% of people wouldn't be downloading massive amounts. Even if you didn't make a profit initially you'd still have a user base locked in that would then become profitable once you got access to cheaper bandwidth through SEACOM etc.

nobody answered the all important question whats the latency like for games ie ping on local servers or even international?

So to where was the uploads? Can we get a more indepth test of Neotel to Neotel uploads, Neotel to Local, (via IS, Verizon etc), Neotel to international via SAT3/SAFE.
Are they throttling the upload speed to only allow a maximum of 68kbps?
Does Neotel provide public IPs? e.g. can one then host a website and let somebody that is not on the Neotel network connect to it?

Well sure, they can give us 8 meg dsl but only surf locally.... Buying bandwidth from overseas cost money.. Local bandwidth should be free and open for everyone to explore and use.

It is available on the torrents- people in the US capture it via tv tuners and then upload it.

I was reading somewhere that one guy who is on IS uncapped dsl, downloads about 500 gig a month. Multi-thereading, forgot where i read that article.......
