Neotel has arrived in the south african market with all the impact of a wet noodle! Their coverage is pathetic and slow. Their products are unexciting and weak. Their pricing is nothing to jump at. And their admin and customer service is shockingly poor. They are a massive disappointment!![]()

Dear Mr Swanepoel,
1. You are a complete idiot (we can't write what we'd like to).
2. We strongly recommend that you immediately stop using any products that do not have an appropriate disclaimer. For example, please make sure that your microwave oven has a large sticker on it stating "Do not dry cat in microwave oven". Also, we suggest that you label all your coffee mugs with labels saying "Caution, hot." We suggest that you give up driving, since there are too many things that can hurt you in a motor vehicle. While you are about it, you may want to wrap yourself in cotton wool and lock yourself permanently in a cupboard, so that you can't ever be confused by the real world. Especially, do not listen to any adverts, particularly whilst driving, since it's clear that you have a very limited understanding of the world.
3. To address your problem comprehensively, why don't we just remove all the good adverts from radio, TV, billboards etc, and replace them with large disclaimers warning you what each product cannot do?

[Hasn't anyone realised yet that if we make enough stupid complaints like this, we won't have real competition for long? This is only going to make matters worse, not better. Neotel is just going to add more disclaimers, and refuse to offer a service to anyone who isn't prepared to swear that they will never complain about coverage. So much for asking them to lighten up on the coverage requirement. Whilst I agree that adverts should not be actively misleading, it's going way too far to kill off creativity and competitive positioning. As it is, companies in SA cannot use comparative advertising - it would be great if Neotel could use a real comparison with their competitors in ads, but they can't - so why try to stop what remains? If we stay on this path, the ads really are going to be shorter than the disclaimers. I think Neotel should sue Mr Swanepoel for loss of revenue while they record a new ad which is half disclaimers. For that matter, has no-one ever taken Telkom to the ASA for simply not providing what they claim at all?]
Compared to what? The coverage isn't great yet, but there are plenty of us inside it now. I'd like them to speed up rollout as well, but, objectively, it hasn't been particularly slow by industry standards. It also helps that they don't lie about coverage like everyone else.
