Neotel Network Problems

Tell me about it. Got a R399 Neoconnect Prime package 2 weeks ago and the fastest I've gotten is about 20kb/s. It's insanely slow, and I've 100% coverage, I'm in the center of Cape Town CBD.

I heard from the Neotel rep from myadsl (he called me) and explained that the network has grown to fast hence the over load.

If you're gonna give uncapped 2.4mbs for R999 then you better make sure you can handle the customer influx. If it's an alternative to Telkom, then bus loads of new business should have hit them at once.

Ai ai ai.

Yes, - AT LAST - An Acurate article on the Neotel Issues, Hopefully they will listen and correct the issues, Before more BS

Try having a Neoflex 10GB for R699 and getting the fastest speed of around 15KB/s... once it jumped to 50KB/s. the worst is you get 30% through a download and it just dies.

For sure, they do just 'die' don't they! For now I'm lucky and have an alternate resource for DSL here so I'm using the Neotel as a phone primarily and as backup internet incase something happens.

The battery life on the Neotel phones is amazing, if the power goes out then I can get a days worth of net time, but my laptop wont last that long :(

You see, its easy to get max download speed when network is small but as soon as more & more clients come on board thats when the ***** hits the fan & quality goes out the window. I will stick to Telkom for now.

iv been having major issues! check out http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=162861

Neotel is the only Internet connection I can currently get at my house and its got ****ty signal.. but if they dont do something within the next few days... they can have it back!

If they give you an ETA on when it can be fixed then if I was you I'd get a second hand 1.8mbs 3G card for about R500 and use prepaid 3g, buy a 500mb bundle for R189 and use that to surf with. Good side to it is, you'll have 3G for a backup incase this ever happens again :)

It is that bad that I don't even surf on it (Neotel), unless I really have to, I use DSL in the meantime :(

I hear what you saying and I have a free 3G card considering I work for MTN however I recently moved into a new development in Greenstone Hill and there is no 3G coverage, no DSL, no iburst... the neotel has a red light on signal however it works.. kindof!

My major gripe is that they don't at least inform us about these issues. If the problems are from congested towers, how is it possible that the service can drop so fast in 2 days. This has been my drop-in-speed time in Cape town city bowl. Some of the Joburg users have had these issues for much longer as can be seen in the forums.

Its called GREED, at one time you could only get Neotel with excellent service,

Then it was ok , lets get subscribers and open it up..

Then its you need an antenna , forcing more pressure on the towers

and now... oops... overload...

Try to get subscribers before the undersea cable, because prices will drop... and more available bandwidth.

Try as long as possible, not to say you are fixing the problem... until it goes away... or they loose 25% of the client base.

Its not just bad network speed but also there questionable neoflex device issued and customer support i still have a technical support ticket open from the 28th January that i have heard nothing about.

Try this, a trouble ticket open from Oct08 for poor signal and drop in speed - still open till Dec08 - then closed 'cos they said they will issue and external antenna despite my insistance this is a tower issue. Up to now I still don't have this antenna.

Since Jan09 it skids downhill faster than Shabir Shaiks parole hearing, with the introduction of Neoflex, I'm barely seeing more than 40kbs. and they are still taking my 1000bucks a month.

Thanks to mybb for highlighting our plight, maybe there could be some urgency from their side to have this fixed.

I hope some urgency- But everything else so far - has been "PATIENCE"

And nothing happens. Hope this article goes further than just Myadsl.

Would look great in the STAR front page

BIG boo-boo. They GROSLY underestimated the hunger for bandwith is SA.

I don't understand why how the entire network can go down for a whole business day without them being able to tell us what is going on.

This is a great test for the company in terms of crisis management and right now they are failing royally.

They should be telling us what the problem is, how widespread it is and how long they expect it to be down for. Then once the network comes back up again they should be crediting our accounts for the day we didn't have access. It's only R22 (for a 10GB NeoFlex customer) but it is the right thing to do.

They need to remember that it is us early adopters that will make or break this service because we are the people that friends and family come to when they are making these decisions.

*fail*

Now we know why they make you sign a 24 month contract. How many people, besides those who can't get coverage from the other providers, would stay with Neotel after all the issues. And I am guessing they don't have 100 000s of broadband subscribers like the other networks...

i would not count on it.
I have been experiencing really bad speeds from them for a while,I have the same package as you R999 p/m unlimited. I actually 1st started out with the lite unlimited package then after 1 month moved to the prime package. Anway since i have started the prime package i am paying 999 per month and in the first month i used to get between 70 - 80 kilobytes per second. after the 1st month i would only ever get up to 15 - 16 kilobytes per second (the same speed i used to get on the lite package incidentally) some days i dont even get kilobytes i get between 800 - 900 bytes. on the days when i get bytes not kilobytes i cannot even surf, it does not open pages. on the days when i get kilobytes then granted it does open the webpages just takes very long and there are a lot of errors. Oh yes and my personal favourite - i will connect and reconnect again again and i will get an invalid username and password error then when i do finally get connected .... double click on ie and connection drops. So much fun i could cry.
Coupled with the speed problems i have also been billed every month since moving to the prime unlimited package for both the prime and lite unlimited that i mentioned earlier (so basically R1469 p/m)
after fights at the end of every month about the billing i was lied to and told that the problem was sorted out and i would be credited at the end of next month with the extra amount in my account. geuss what ? it never happened.
during my latest fight it was established that they did not upgrade my lite account they simply signed me up for a new account without closing my old one. they promised to refund me ......lol geuss what never happened.
Turns out that there finance department declined the payment into my account because of a wrong calculation from the billing department.
mmmm........ it seems to me they have no systems in place. anyway the end result is that they have now confirmed the amount to be refunded and they will be paying that amount into my account by friday the 19th march. i very much doubt that it will happen and unless i am very much mistaken i will probably be billed for the lite package again this month.
so thats another R469 for a service i no longer have and R999 for a serice that i can barely use.

But through out all of this the one thing that really makes my blood boil is that at the call centre they pretend like the problems you are experiencing are isolated incidents only applicable to you. My advice stick to telkom. if anyone is interested go for the axxess (isp) unlimited account ( 1258 ) currently less then i am paying if you count the billing errors. you will be much better off and as added bonus there is none of this contract nonsense, all month to month.
As an added kick in the @$$ neotel construction was taking place down the road from me .... some idiot went and hit a power main effectively knocking out my whole block (friday 13th march in cyrildene).
i have put together speed tests and my bank statements to show how inept they are and how below average their speeds are i will be showing this to every person i see thinking about taking out a neotel at their kiosks in the shopping malls i encourage everyone to do the same.

P.S If my calcualtions regarding speeds were off and my gramar was incorrect at any point i apologize ..... all i can say is that i am quite emotional at the time of writing out this later. suffice to say i could only post this quote this at work because it would have taken my neotel connection to long to load the page and there would have been to many errors
