Neoconnect prime:

Average speeds between 300 and 700Kbps

Neoflex data:

Average data speeds of between 450 to 900Kbps (downloads) and 300 to 700Kbps (uploads)

SO if i download on my neotel i should get the same speed at a 4mb adsl line? like torrents i use to download 400 kbs

Nope, 4mb equates to 512KB/s

the highest on average with Neotel = 900kbs/8 = 112KB/s

Ok so then my speed is good cause i download stuff at 160-200KB/s

where on 4 meg i use to do about 300-400KB/s and faster on the news servers.

So my con is actually quite good ^^

@ zerofocus: Please may I have your contact details & Neotel service number. I would like to contact you to runt hrough your problem and provide the correct info.

Ok, for someone whose been singing Neotel praises for a while now, I'm really disappointed today :(. There seems to have been those sneaky 'hanging' situations present from last night and today and I'm wondering if the Durban weather has anything to do with this

Your thoughts please Neotel Rep.

Thank you :)

I really can't understand how a problem like this can occur in the first place, and how it takes local tests and sample data provided by MyBB forumites to assist in identifying problematic areas. I would think that with a world-class Next Generation Network, Neotel should have performance and network monitoring facilities in place to identify bottlenecks and areas struggling with high latency and packet loss. I'm assuming Neotel did feasibility studies before constructing towers in specific areas, identifying whether their would be a need for that specific tower and the expected average usage for that tower. They clearly got this wrong for certain areas, but even so, they should have noticed the rapid increase in demand or usage in the problematic areas and have provided extra coverage and what not to prevent the problem from occurring in the 1st place.

I'm not a Neotel customer but this still concerns me.... I'm a future potential client and if problems like this are arising (clearly due to poor management and network engineering), I won't be moving over any time soon.

Happy with NeoFlex

I'm very happy with my NeoFlex (in Sandton) - got it about a month ago and speeds were good from the beginning and seem to be getting better. Today's speedtest results are:

Down: 1686kbps
Up: 589kbps
Ping: 147ms

I also average around 130KB/s when downloading from new-servers

-Avi

OK. Update :D
Down speed: 60kB/s (was 115kB/s yesterday )
up speed: 10kB/s
Ping 160ms
NeoConnect Unlimited
RSSI: 57
PN: 320

Was better yesterday. Hope it picks back up again soon:p

Has anyone here noticed that their ping is lower when using the gabarone-botswana server on www.speedtest.net? I find it quite amusing that I get a ping of 110 to botswana and a ping of 200 to johannesburg (when I live in JHB). How does this make sense?!!?!

I'll wait my turn as I have a backup 3G card I use at the moment. I've seen a few guys on here that have not been sorted out, some of which are trying to cancel their contracts. I'm sure if you fix their issues (the network), my issues (the network) will magicaly be fixed also. I urge you to sort them out ASAP. When can we expect some feedback?

Dear Neotel representative,

Given your announcement that connectivity problems experienced over last two weeks are related to high usage in specific areas, what will your actions entail as far as controlling high usage is concerned.

For example are we going to see changes to structure of your products in terms of AUP, fuhrer shaping/capping of "power" users etc?

Neotel is currently addressing the data speed concern as a top company priority and does realize the current inconvenience and frustration being caused. Steps have already been initiated to resolve the situation, and we hope to make quick progress. Further to this, we are fast-tracking the implementation of new sites in areas where we have identified high usage. We will provide progress updates as they become available.

EDIT: To Mr Neotel rep:

Could we please have a progress update on those "Steps that have already been initiated"? Surely those have "become available" by now, considering they have "already been initiated"?

Not angry about it as it doesn't really affect me (I'm on ADSL), but I am still considering moving to Neotel and how the company deals with this issue is an important factor for me. I am already impressed that Neotel actually came out and admitted to the network congestion as they could've just stonewalled like so many other companies do.

If Neotel is not going to provide information on exactly what those steps are (that they claim to have already initiated), then this is just another excuse.
