Neotel network speed degradation update

Neotel suplies a yagi antenna for free if you shout HARD enough...got myantenna on sat. Went from RSSI 108 to 64...only problem is I still can only barely browse the web...

First of all, well said to Anjulfajah (post on page 2) - I heartily agree.

At time of this post, using Neoflex data in Randburg (supposedly the flagship data service) and testing at http://speedtest.neotel.co.za/ I am getting:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 76 kbps (9.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 383 kbps (47.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Kinda sucks :-(

Didn't bother to any international sites - seems kinda pointless when your ISP's speed test server can barely respond :-(

Having now been on the Neoflex service for just over a month, my first impression has been that when Neotel's network is working well, the service is great. Unfortunately performance is erratic to say the least - makes me wonder if they don't have a bunch of internal techies sapping bandwidth at will, and/or making "cowboy" changes to the core network when it suits them...

PS: Just double checked my network again, reset the MV 400 again, and ran the test again:

Download Speed: 97 kbps (12.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 463 kbps (57.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Definitely nothing on this side causing the issue...

Sad, but with each passing day it's getting worse!!
Latest speedtest for Sunninghill:
Download Speed: 120 kbps (15 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 21 kbps (2.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
It's a bloody disgrace!!
Now I would like to cancel without paying any charges because clearly they are in breach of contract - Has anybody succeeded in this?

Well...they wanted to mount it thereselves but I was afraid they would fall off my roof & break sumthing (of mine) so i mounted it myself..its only suplied with a 10m cable thus where they wanted to mount it I only got an rssi of 76 so I mounted it at a dif lacation where I got 64....have to go buy an extension cable at my own cost now....what a bummer...

atleast i cost them 700bucs for sumting still not working:p

The problem thesedays is that blacklisting a client is so easy to apply for without the client even being contacted...Im reversing my debitorder first thing as soon as they put it through...will take it from there:rolleyes:

Unfortunately dumass me forgot i live on an estate where i cant mount things on my roof. It still worked quite well for me through my window :) I got an improvement of a good 10-12db.

HAHAHAHA....Serves you right for living in an Estate!!!Lmfao:D

bt it should work even better if you have a roof to mount it in (between you roof tiles & sealing) LOL

Just Did a Test now:

Speeds from my side were great for about 5 days. They're now back to what they were for February.

Speed Test

Not sure what's going on. Neotel Rep?

Disgustingly slow speeds tonight as of 10pm - was hitting 90kB/s before then - now im getting about 15-20kB's dload and about 2kB upload. I can only hope this is due to a tower upgrade...

Absolutely no internet this morning - wouldnt load any page- just timed - even though I had a strong signal indicator.

Do some speed tests and post them here (if you can do it) - do a tracert to google.com as well and post results.

Guys, I sure you will agree that this is gettting worse by the day and what bugs me is the inconsistency. i.e. I get 1 signal bar and able to connect although at dialup speeds and some of you get strong signal and cannot do anything. All and well that Neotel rep is here but there is absolutely no useful information coming from them.

Somthing must have been going on at the Midrand Tower last night. Around 11pm, there was no service. Tried rebooting the Neotel Device and unplugging it. It came on at 4 bars, dropped 1 after the other to no signal in a few seconds.

Service resumed this morning again.

Speeds were atrocious last night (2 March) - I couldn't do much of anything online until about 10pm, where things started to pickup. At 10:25pm my connection just died completely. The connect light went dead, as if there was no tower in my area. /sigh
