Neotel network speed degradation update

Hey agentrfr - im using a poynting yagi antenna - RSSI is about 72-74 - i stay in wendywood on bowling avenue. Im not sure what PN i connect to, im using neoflex so I cant dial any number. I think its the megawatt tower one or the woodmead one. Not sure though.

Agentrfr, I might just have to join Ushir in dishing out a beating.

Can't say that speeds have been great in the area though - this morning seemed to be a bit better but still not as good as it used to be!

B.

Got NeoConnect Prime

4 Full Bars on phone, RSSI of 70.

250Kb/s downloads and 40Kb/s uploads.
Latency 600-2000ms.
Location: Rosebank in Cape Town

This sucks.

That is 2000 kbps. Almost theoretical maximum. What are you complaining about?

Kb/s is kilobits note the small b. Thus it is downloading at an maximum of 31.25KB/s e.g. kilobytes. Note the big B. The K can be either upper- or lowercase. The B is the difference.

I'm getting lower then the 300Kb/s minimum promised by Neotel. With my signal strength I should be getting well over 1000Kb/s download speeds. My latency should also be better.

We're all in the same boat at the moment.
I've got 4 bars, 65 RSSI and wait for it, 150kbps.

I know, I just feel jealous of ushir, he has an worse signal then me yet he has speeds that utterly destroys mine.

I hope Neotel fixes our towers soon. However I live in Cape Town and they are still busy sorting out the problems in Jo'burg.

Also guys, the wifi router on the neoflex modem is rubbish, so make sure ure speeds are not degraded cos of the wifi. If i do a speedtest on my ps3 which is connected wirelessly, i get TERRIBLE results. However, when I do it on my laptop connected via ethernet, or when I bring the laptop close to the router it flies. Lastly, if ure going by torrents to measure speed, make sure uve seen up port fowarding correctly because u will never get broadband speeds if u dont.

Bought a Wireless N router now to fix it =)

Lol - I was in the same boat as u, it just improved this weekend, im assuming they fixed something on the tower.

Hi all,

As part of the first phase of upgrades, changes were made this weekend to the following 3 base stations:

- Paulshof
- Halfway House
- Megawatt Park / Sunninghill

We require your feedback on whether this as made a difference in terms of speed. Please post responses with RSSI, Speed and Location.

Thank you.

@Ushir: I think you have already seen the difference ;-)

ninex were in Cape Town are you located? Maybe we can get a list of all the Areas affected.

Me--Rosebank.

Oh and Neotel Rep did you get my ticket number that I PM'ed you?

Ohh me me! Pick me as a Guinea pig!

Hey, Neotel Rep, I have an idea :D
Ok ok, here it is. Maybe, if possable and your feeling extra nice/influential/sympathetic to our (that being us oaks in Olivedale/Bryanston) cause, could you please include tower 304 in your next vallient expedition to rid the world of low speeds :D?

Also, I can post regular updates on speed and RSSI, it might help some other oaks and what they can expect. Oh and I'm perfectly willing to sacrifice tower 304 for a day or two during the week or weekend if your guys are crawling around inside it welding cables and what not. I'm sure everyone else would do the same :p

So hows about it heh :D?
