Neotel network speed degradation update

My Neotel has been behaving... 100KB/s generally, but drops now and again, but not for long.

I love it, let's me download demos and trailers like mad! (No, really!)
Got the ARMA2 demo!!! YAY!

What? Last night at 2am i had 0 connectivity. Was this due to maintenance?

I don't understand all the tower preference talk. I mean I get that you're making the most of the situation and all that but how SAD is it that we have to resort to isolating which towers are best ourselves ?

Tonight! I can't even load Speedtest and even MyBB times out!

Had the same problem last night :(

Reading your posts I am a bit disturbed about the speeds with Neotel which I was going to sign up with on behalf of my daughter who is moving close to Fourways Crossing.Their map shows excellent coverage but now I am not sure it is the way forward.Telkom 6
to 8 weeks delivery.

Had my antenna installed yesterday, RSSI went from 107 to 91 and got a new PN.
Download speed very intermittent between 5-10kB, more stable but half the speeds I usually get.
Without the external antenna RSSI 107 intermittent download speeds between 8-18kB but disconnects and hangs frequently even with ping's been constantly sent.

Really don't know what to do now as we were under excellent coverage for 10 months, just last 2 months no coverage :(

Well I can only pickup one tower now days, PN 264 seems to have just vanished. I can't pick up any other tower besides 432 with both my normal Neotel Antenna and my External Yagi one.

0.96mbps down
0.10mbps up

I had about 200-300kbps for about 3 weeks. I wonder what they've done to make my speeds like this again. I just wish PN 264 was around still. :/

The coverage map means nothing. It could be Excellent today, Zero tomorrow. This is exactly what happened to me.

From maxing at 3mbps now down to 300kbps.

Add to that - nobody interested in helping you or able to clarify anything. Don't look at NeotelRep for anything either. PMd him last week and still nothing.

Same, biggest worry now is I am paying for an uncapped account, not able to use more than 1gig b/w/month for the last 2 months, might aswell be on a cheaper 1 gig package.

Customer Services == 'US' the customer having to chase up on a daily basis with almost no feedback or solutions to our problems.

Anyone sent a letter off to ICASA yet ?
Anyone able to make contact with Senior members at Neotel ?
I have left quiet a few messages now and no-one calls back, my letter to ICASA goes in noon tomorrow.

Got my Neoflex router today .... just a pitty I only see this thread today, else I would've NEVER signed up for Neotel. :(
Just did a test on speedtest.net
Tower: Not sure ....I have Neoflex ... Zwartkop, Centurion area..
download: 530kbps
upload: 310kbps
RSSI: 71

With Vodacom 3G I constantly tested at 1.2Mbit/sec download and 250kBit/sec upload ...at least it was always constant ..

Strange thing is ....these speeds looks kind of "ok", but I can see a CLEAR problem in browsing the net ... what appears to happen, is that I'll have one speed at the moment, and then almost NOTHING the next moment .... I could clearly see it while I was downloading drivers for my notebook ... the download started at 6kB/s(60kbit/s) ..then after 3 minutes it suddenly shot up to 103kB/s ...
With Vodacom 3G I never had such great differences in speed over a short period ...

I'm NOT a very happy chappy at the moment :(

I know that Screamer Wimax covers Fourways as well. They took their time installing me about 6 months ago but reading the comments on the WiMAX forum they are installing in 2 days now.

I got my NeoFlex 15Gb package yesterday. I was extremely happy in which the sales staff handled my application, and had me connected the same day as application.
What makes me unhappy is the speed is slow and inconsistent. Max download would peak 400+ kbps, but then at other times only peak at 60kbps. Averages hover around 100-200kbps even though my signal strength is excellent. Even iBurst was more consistent!

This is well below Neotel's quoted 400-700kbps average.

I hope I'll see improvements soon.

I'm with you. I have pretty much decided to return and demand a refund. I've had promises, confusion and then nothing, I've left countless messages with the woman who initially helped me. My service was restored but now it's worse than ever.

Will I still be able to lodge a complaint with ICASA after I've returned it?

This means I'll be without internet, but honestly, the principle of it bugs me and I'm not going to be treated like this as a paying client.

The NeotelRep is full of promises when he decides to appear, don't hold your breath there.

Also rpm I appreciate the effort you went through with having the meeting, but clearly we are not being taken seriously.

We can't be expected to sit back and just get handed whatever the decide, there lack of communication is the biggest annoyance. No network status updates are a BIG problem. At least if I get an email everyday saying, 'Were working on this to do this and your speed will be degraded' - I'd be willing to accept that temporarily.

As it is now, I'm a really pissed off customer and honestly - Neotel is about 40 steps behind Telkom on everything.

They are just taking the piss now.

Wether the ICASA complaint is pointless or not, I'll still be doing it, and like I mentioned before, as I work in advertising, I'll be keeping an eye out to start making complaints at the ASA every turn I can.

Not to mention I'll be warning everyone here and those I know NOT to go Neotel.

Yup, exactly the same here.
And also Pm'd him about 2 weeks ago, still nothing..

Speed issues

OK Guys,

Sorry for my absence...I'll be giving an update shortly on the plans we have to try and get this sorted for you guys this should at least explain the reasons for your speeds. Also just a small note to say thanks for your patience with us and also for your feedback, we do take the feedback into consideration when we plan things and tackle issues we have...

regards

If you ask me Neotel is just delaying until SEACOM goes active.

In the mean time they signing up people left and right clogging the network.

I'm getting 29KB/sec x 8bits = 232kb/sec, which is below the contracted 300kb/sec. Unacceptable.

I'm currently on Neoflex and it's bloody slower than the Prime package I used to be on.

This is just unacceptable.
PM me and I'll happily give you my support with anything regarding nailing Neotel. Don't bother phoning their call centre, lets just flood ICASA with complaints.

Communication in any relationship is key.
Obviously they don't want one with us.
They just come onto this forum every now and then just to give the illusion that they care about the consumers.
Only thing they care about is lining their pockets and we have to sit with this sub-standard service.:mad::mad:

In case you haven't noticed - patience is something we've run out of a long time ago.

It's become a case of 'too little too late' for me.

I suggest you give us this update today.

I suggest you give us this update today.

I agree...
...and not some hazy explaination about what you're planning.

We want to know what you are currently doing about it.

Even if SEACOM brings greater speed, we expect to be compensated for putting up with this cr@p service.

We are paying good money and just somehow have to accept being raped through the ears.
We, the customers, will use all the spare time we now have (from waiting on our slow downloads and inability to play lag-less games) to chase potential customers and make enough noise at ICASA to get something above the sub-standard service we are currently getting for the remainder of our individual contracts.
