.NET Core 5 is open source on GitHub
Microsoft will support .NET Core 5 on Windows, Linux and Mac.
Microsoft has contributed .NET Core 5 to the .NET Foundation
.NET Framework 4.6 reference source now uses the MIT license
Renewed collaboration with the Mono Project

Wow, that's pretty impressive. And good news for Linux, I would imagine.

Microsoft is not planning to deploy versions of vNext directly for OS X or Linux, but rather to foster the development of vNext on top of Mono for those platforms.

At least a start. I am unsure of the overhead of Mono. 1st prize would be to run ASP.net websites directly on Apache but I don't think that will ever happen.
