Wow, that's pretty impressive. And good news for Linux, I would imagine.
 
Microsoft is not planning to deploy versions of vNext directly for OS X or Linux, but rather to foster the development of vNext on top of Mono for those platforms.
At least a start. I am unsure of the overhead of Mono. 1st prize would be to run ASP.net websites directly on Apache but I don't think that will ever happen.
 
I wonder if they're hoping that going open-source will take the attention away from them stealing from Docker?

I doubt it. And who cares about idea stealing, it's good news for all of us.
 
So this "foundation for the future .NET" means what? The current .NET as we know it wont be compatible with the future versions?

At least lots of work for .net devs to update pre net 5 to net 5 :twisted:
