That's exactly how I thought at first. However, you will soon realize that every few days you need to update your IP address, and in order to do this you need to be logged into your account. This is what necessitates a paid subscription.

Thank you that makes sense. Seems you know all the ins and outs and I like to understand how these things actually work. If you say " your IP address " is that a fake one that works with unotelly's dns settings ? or am I now way off lol

You are confusing yourself.

Unotelly only let's 1 IP address at a time use an account. This is to stop you sharing your Unotelly details with your friends.

So Unotelly needs to know you IP address so you get access and other people don't. Unless you're using an internet connection that gives you a fixed IP adress this will always change and why you need to update Unotelly with your IP address.

Thank you for clearing it up.

I simply cannot get Hulu to stream consistently.

I've now forced it to 1Mb which seems to work for the shows themselves, but Ads lag like crap.

I believe ad quality doesn't change out of what I've seen

That would explain my experience.

I don't understand why ads can't pre-buffer like everything else though.

a tip I've read somewhere...

Just a split second after you start Netflix on the PS3, hold select and start buttons for a few seconds. This will reset netflix and ask you to re-register.
I think thats the same as uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have had very little success with Netflix.
I do everything as what you guys describe. And I have got it working only twice in the week I've been trying.

I got it working late Sunday night (19 Jan 2014) and then Monday afternoon after work it was busted again. (didn't change any settings, just switched on everyting and it didn't work)
I keep getting nw-2-5 error codes and sometimes nw-8-17, which I think is DNS setting problems.

Can it be because my 4Mb telkom line is intermittently dropping to 1MB and sometimes even below for the last week or so?

You need at least a stable 1Meg connection for proper Netflix.

PS3 netflix app currently have a problem, is that not possibly why you getting the errors? i know i am having those issues as well, they released a fix on Sunday night, check on unotelly, haven't tried it yet.

Something to do with Netflix ignoring your DNS setting and using different dns to connect to netflix.

I had unotelly but kept getting errors, switched to unlocator which is free as still in beta and now everything like a bomb. I also decided to put dns on router instead of ps3 / ps4 and that cleared up any errors I had

One question - people say you should be careful changing DNS on router as you opening yourself up for security attacks when doing online banking?

Those people are retarded. Unotelly redirects anything they don't support to Google DNS so you are completely safe.

It's definitely the line speed thats the problem. Last night the internet was off in my area at about 23:00 it came back online.
My speed was 3.5Mb/s and I could log into netflix on the second try.

I watched my first Netflix movie in 720p (Schweeeet!!!)

All I did to get it working...
1. Changed DNS address on PS3 which I got from UnoTelly.
2. Checked UnoTelly site to see if my external IP is still the same.
3. On second attempt I got in.

PS. I've got "4Mb" Telkom capped. Cheap telkom router. Streaming wireless upstairs to PS3.

Ah man. I am so battling my wits with this setup.

So far. Signed up with unotelly.
did PS3 dns change to primary Joburg and secondary california. then logged in on ps3, then created american log in, checked settings, went into psn usa, went out, downloaded netflix, started it, and it says cannot access netflix, try again. went on with pc, unotelly says unodns not set up correctly. troubleshooted everything, no change. been back to ps3, changed primary to cape town. still cant access netflix.

should i set uno up on my router?

Yes.

You need to update your IP address on Unotelly.

After you set it up on your router reboot your PC*
Then go to Unotelly's site and then go to quick start and update your IP.

You don't need to reboot your PC if you run this from the command prompt:
ipconfig/flushdns
