Just one last question: Should I use my FNB card, must I first activate Verified by Visa or can I use it without this?

It's not necessary, but I do have it activated on my card.
The thing is, Hulu+ and Netflix do not use two factor authentication such as Verified by Visa.

Go ahead with your FNB card, it should work first time!
And enjoy!

I have only come across 1 or 2 sites that require Verified by Visa. Netflix and Hulu wasn't one of them.

This is awesome! Been trying to get Netflix working for ages. Does anyone know when (if) they will be officially available in SA?

Unotelly has been dodgy today, been getting a lot of "geo restriction" messages trying to stream Hulu+

Probably never since Dstv won't like it one bit. I have heard rumours though of Netflix partnering with Telkom to come to SA. Apparently Netflix already has servers here. (Rumoured)

Yeah. I got to sign up for Netflix and Hulu via my cheque card. Didn't have to do anything special to access hulu

Well done. Glad you managed to get it up and running. Enjoy!
It ran Netflix and Hulu+ in parallel with my DSTV Premium subscription for the first month, and promptly cancelled it thereafter.
I can tell you though, you will never miss DSTV.

Yeah dstv won't be lasting long in my home. As soon as my exchange congestion and line upgrades are sorted I'll invest in a WD TV

Good start. Next stop Roku. Or just do the right thing and go straight to the Roku. I had 4 WDTV Lives and 1 hub. Been there.

Now that is something which I cannot fathom.
All of DSTV's series is sourced from the big networks in the US.
You're at the source!!!!

You've now made me want a roku, although the WD TV should meet my needs.

I am torn

It will meet your needs. I have gone through many multimedia devices and eventually settled on the WDTV devices as the best ever - until Roku came along :)

When my wife setup her home office, I put a 32" in her office and gave her the last remaining WDTV Lives (rest replaced with Roku's). 2 weeks later she asked me to get her a Roku in there. Now the WDTV is in my hardware drawer and can't find the remote - lol.

So ye - it's good - and you can get it locally - but it ain't a Roku.

I'll probably settle for the WD TV. CBA to import a roku. Now to decide between the WD TV Play and the WD TV Live...

Mike,

I hope you're getting a commission with all of your promoting of the Roku ;)
Besides the obvious Netflix/Hulu +, what other services do you use on there?

I don't watch sport at all. Just want to know what other nice movie/series offerings there are.

I see myself as a guinea pig dude. I am a movie and TV show freak and tried out so many devices. Just hate seeing other peeps starting out going through the same process I went through. Just trying to help them jump over all hurdles at once so to speak.

We use Plex/Netflix/Hulu and that's it. Played around with the other channels but never really go back.

The PS3 bluray remote is no longer supported by the Hulu PS3 app (as of yesterday's update). You now have to use the PS3 controller which is seriously not cool.

Might be time to goa WD Live...
