Netflix ZA Live

So is it just me or is some of their older content ONLY SD? I tried Kung Fu Panda and there's no HD option. Making a murderer buffers to HD eventually.

The thing I like most about Netflix launching here is that it doesn't make sense to watch it on mobile yet, which means more people will want fiber... which means more FTTH!!!!

The current selection is pretty bad. It will probably get more licenses in the next few months, and there is a lot of Netflix originals coming out, so it will get better. For now, meh.

What confuses me is that so many Netflix original content isn't there. WTF is up with that? House of Cards, Orange is the new Black not there - How to Train your Dragon series, only the first episode. Bizarre.

I can't think it's about rights either - Netflix has to have known for a long time it's expanding around the world and would have been really stupid to give exclusive rights to other players. And Netflix ain't stupid.

It's not just the content. But the whole experience. Everything from the UI to recommendation engine is better on Netflix. Once you've used Netflix for a while ShowMax will feel archaic. Content be damned.

Pretty sure Netflix will only get better as well as time goes on here in SA.

I think people should give them a break here - they launched in 130 countries simultaneously without any notice or fanfare. It certainly not an easy task localizing for that many markets at once. Their selection isn't terrible and they do have some content not available in the US.

It's impressive how many countries they are available in like the entire African Continent which is unheard off!

This should be the best news for users with VPNs that allow region switching - you now have huge number of new regions to switch too!

nice... albeit more expensive.... same price for basic, but only one stream. on US account, u could add multiple 'users', we had myself and daughter, and many a times ran 2 streams, one in living room, one for kid.
still, its early days... lets have looksee what comes out

edit... just had a look... I can open NF without VPN addition.... and click Sign in.. clocked in with existing US account.
haven't tried streaming anything yet.... work to do :(
but its got my history... so seems to keep your existing account and history, nice
still .... if its same price, just now unblocked for ZA, will probly keep US acc going :)
VPN providers, UnoTelly & Mediahint may take a bit of a knock if not needed anymore, for same content

edit some more :) ... quick squiz.... clicked a TV episode... plays fine with US acc.
One Netflix account is all you need. It switches automatically to the region it "thinks" you are in. So in SA itwill show you content allowed in SA but if you use VPN or Unotelly you can get the content available in any other region in the world.

Based of a quick check shows like Suits, Elementary, Black Sails, Penny Dreadful and Scream (the series). I'm sure the US will still have better content overall though as its their biggest market (I think half their subscribers are from the "US")!

I downgraded my subscription from 4 screens to 2 screens earlier this evening.
Still paying $7.99, not $8.99

As you requested, we've changed your plan over to the 2 screens at a time plan at $7.99 a month. This change will be effective Sunday, January 10, 2016

Anyone got this running via Xbox or Samsung Smart TV without changing the region settings?
