New 1 series - Thoughts?

I think it is very ugly. Never been a fan of the 1 Series. Love the 1 Series Coupe though :)
 
I've ordered mine. Should be ready in a month or so.

118i sportspack
17" rims
Dark Sea blue colour
black leather seats with red trimmings
harman kardon sound systems (BMW professional business radio)
sunroof

I'm looking forward to it. First decent car really

At what price? What BMW charge for these things seem a tad extortionate, to be honest.

You are right, it is quite pricey. Total price was R340k. I know I probably would have gotten far petter performance car in the range of a Focus ST, GTIs, etc. I've been a beemer fan all my life, there was no way I was gona let this one go. Especially before I start talking Lobola negotiations, etc.

I would have gone for a year-old 3 series if you're into beemers.

That's not too bad. I just find it rediculous how much more they charge for the 128... Congrats on the car, I think its a great choice! Much better than any ST or GTI...

I understand where you're coming from and I'd be lying if I said I haven't considered acquiring something from ze Germans as well, but I just can't bring myself to spending so much on something relatively...mundane? Personally, I would've picked up a low-km G6 GTI maybe or hell, even a low mileage 330D.

Look if someone can afford it by all means let them spend their money but status purchases usually get people into trouble.

Why do people assume that when you buy a beemer / merc / audi, etc it is status buy? I am buying this car because I like it. I do feel it is a bit overpriced, but I'm willing to pay the premium.

just curious, what specifically do you find striking on this vehicle as opposed to other similar range buys?

The new 1-series does not photograph well... The press photos had my heartily convinced that it is dog-ugly, but I've had to adjust my opinion after seeing a Valencia-orange 118i on Clearwater BMW's floor the other day. It looks hawt.

Granted, it had a whole bunch of extras fitted, but in the flesh it is a good looking car. Never thought I'd say that.

we referring specifically to all the overpriced optional extras not the brand itself.
Would you still want it if no one saw it?

Personally I feel that the only real contender to the 1 series is the A3. Once you have driven one you will understand why... The GTI and ST really are no contenders, they're toys.
