What is happening with Amobia? once you fort out the initial R1999 the packages seem competitive as well 1Mbps 1Gb R199, 2Mbps 2gb R299, 3Mbps 3Gb R499

For ADSL you don't have a choice. But for your ISP you do have a choice. And by continuing to use Telkom as your ISP you are ensuring the death of all the other ISPs who provide to the ADSL market and you are ensuring continued high prices and restrictive caps for yourself.

Not a solution for all...but good enough for some. myself included*.
I'm waiting for some wireless provider to come in with a decent SEACOM package that puts ADSL to shame.
*lived with bloody Sentech 256K for years. right now I'd put high cap or unlimited over latency any day.
Thats 160kbps to 400kbps, very very poor.
With my HSDPA basic from Vodacom I get between 200KB/s and 290KB/s, depending where it is. Sometimes I get 100 when I am using the download manager from Firefox.
Plus R130 line rental...
The original article used the previous line rental of R124.20 - seems to have been subsequently updated to include line rental at R131.03

Yeah this is the right price. Do3. I think they;re charging more for do1 and do2 because they would like everyone just to get onto Do3. Thats what happens, with anything. The Telkom deal is still unfortunately the best in my opinion, because ultimately, they dish out the bandwidth and all the other ISP's will never really be able to compete, because Telkom ISP will just keep providing that little extra value add. In my case, buying 30GB local is going to cost an extra +- R200. I got a 384k line 199+200, brings close to Do3 anyways, so for those wanting the local BW, its hard to beat.
With Cybersmart on the other hand, I dont see their 4MB package deal say it includes 30GB local, so it seems they're marketing cheaper international BW....

Knowledge economy is being aborted before being born!

Until the prices come down we are never really going to get a knowledge economy with mass support going and commercially successful!
Malaysia, Korea, Japan, hell even New Zealand is a ***** load cheaper and faster (much faster!) and thus have successful knowledge economy sectors way beyond infancy!
So if the pricing, caps and speeds suck! How are we going to change it? Tired of reading just complaints.....

Something happened here in George at the local Garden Route Mall.Installed the Kraaibosch exchange 044 887(DLU) with no DSLAM, took close on a year to get DSL service at the Mall,most guys went with the Wireless ISP and then some cut across.I had a Telkom ADSL line until I moved into a complex with no telephone lines.
My first choice in the new complex was also Telkom, after waiting 6 weeks they arrived to install only to realize that there were no lines.
What an oversight on the PE Network Planning dept ? No I do not work for Telkom, did back when it was Posts & Telecoms (80's)
