New car advice

Oh and 6L/100km on average so you can drive however you want and still smile at the petrol station

If 2 doors isnt an issue go for the ST, it will put a smile on your face everytime.
Best bang for your buck hot hatch, and good on fuel.

If you looking for 4 door, the fiesta titanium would be a better option.

You don't... but a decent Jag doesnt have to conform to those standards.

Yes, you can buy many fancy cars that rivals the jaguar in its class if age older and high mileage is not important or an issue.

but I'm pretty sure he clearly stated : "What I don't want.": So it's pointless mentioning cars that doesn't suit his requirements.

Anything with more than 30,000KM's on the clock as it needs to last
Car without a maintenance plan/warranty
Ford - Heard bad things about interior build quality, is this true?
Don't want anything older than 2 years.

Allo Guys

Firstly, if there is already something that answers the below, I probably didn't see it.

Hoping someone can help me here. I'm looking for some advice on a car purchase. I have a toss up between purchasing a new vehicle, or purchasing a more powerful second hand vehicle.

Here is my situation:

I'm gatvol of my current car, it's driving me nuts with all the rattling, knocking sounds, and general issues one shouldn't really need to be facing with a relatively new car (was bought new, 1.5yrs ago).

I'm aiming to study full-time in 2016, so I need something decent that will last me at least three years without having to fork out large amounts of cash to fix it.

What I'm looking at:

I'm budgeting at around R250k. I've been looking at the new Polo 1.2TSI Highline DSG. While it's a fantastic car with all the trimmings/bells and whistles that I need, I'm curious to see what else may be a good buy at that price. I am looking for something that might be a little more powerful (more than 81KW). But that DSG gearbox is awesome!

What I don't want:

  • Anything with more than 30,000KM's on the clock as it needs to last
  • Car without a maintenance plan/warranty
  • Ford - Heard bad things about interior build quality, is this true?
  • Don't want anything older than 2 years.
  • No Kia's - I own one, don't want to go there.

Is it worth buying a new vehicle? or should I rather save the cash and get something second-hand?

Any advice for a relatively inexperienced car buyer? :P

When you buy a brand new car, the moment you drive it off, you loose 10K at least right there. Does it still make sense to buy it? You are only planning to drive it for three years? Buying a second hand car with abt 20K on it, is still brand new, with new car smell etc, motor plan and all the rest. It makes sense to go that route...

Shot for the info all. Busy digging through some reviews on the Fiesta ST, it looks pretty awesome, although I'm not sure a 2 door is practical, then again, it's not a train smash.

Ye, don't think a Jag is quite in my price range :P

I'm looking for something newish, preferably an automatic (tiptronic) and preferably above 80KW. These cars are probably what I'm looking at:

-New Polo 81KW DSG
-Audi A1 S-tronic (probably would need to be second hand)
-Polo GTI
-Fiesta ST

Most of these I'd be looking at a demo model, as it knocks some price off. Main concern with getting used (and I'm probably wrong) is that you don't know where the car has been, or how it's been handled, resale value may be less as it's older, and warranty might not cover the 3 years from now.

It seems you are looking more for sportier cars?

I wasn't responding to the OP but rather spiff... who also asked a similar question, and the Jag is in the same range as vehicles he is considering.

What was the cost on this one? I see them on the road, they look nice.

I got a 2014 demo for R228 000

She is amazing. not auto but IMO manual will always be best and all the nice extras like cruise control, bluetooth, sony sound system etc just make it a pleasure to be in.

For what they are, they drive very nicely. drove both cars last week.
Collecting my FiST next week.

Those cars do go like the clappers! Just wouldn't trust a second hand diesel
saw a 330d this morning  - damn thing took off like a jack rabbit from the robots :D

just a bit wary of 2nd hand diesels :(

As long as it has a bit of maintenance plan left it should be fine.

This should makes sense BUT every time I have bought a car these <20k KM cars are so close to the new price AND they have 1 year less warranty, 1 fewer free service AND to top it off the dealers slap on a crap load of other carp which they refuse to drop.
I find when buying new dealers are more willing to negotiate or through is freebies. I swear most of the time its like a few 1000 difference and have opted to buy new.

I was sold on the spirit blue initially, but after looking at a few of them in the sun the blue looks washed out..

I went with the Frozen White, much better in my opinion.
Congrats, you will love it. What color you getting?
