It is only available in South Africa in 3.2 Automatic guise in two specification levels – XLT and the range-topping Limited. With the commencement of local production, a 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi four-cylinder diesel engine will be added to the range, along with a wider spread of specification levels."

Ford’s Everest sport utility vehicle (SUV) will see an expanded range go on sale locally in November 2016.
With Job 1 for Everest production commencing on October 5th at the Silverton assembly in Pretoria, the company says it signals the start of a new era for Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) as it now becomes a two-vehicle assembly facility that also produces the Ranger for export to 148 markets in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
Confidence in production
Ockert Berry, vice-president of operations, said: “The start of local production for the Ford Everest is another major milestone for FMCSA’s Manufacturing division in implementing Ford’s Global Facility and Process Standards."
The Everest will be produced for the South African market, and exported to countries across Sub-Saharan Africa.
This follows a combined R2.5-billion investment in Ford’s local operations for the Everest and Ranger programmes, creating approximately 1200 new jobs at FMCSA, and within its supplier network.
Tracey Delate, general marketing manager for FMCSA, said: “Local production has now enabled us to expand the offering with an additional six model derivatives, two engine choices, three trim levels, the option of manual and automatic transmissions, as well as two and four-wheel drive versions.
“The addition of the 2.2 TDCi XLS and XLT models in particular will appeal to family and lifestyle buyers, offering exceptional value for money matched to an outstanding level of standard safety features, smart technologies and proven all-terrain capability."
More choices and options
While the 147kW 3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine remains the flagship of the range for this seven-seater SUV, the revised Everest line-up will be enhanced with the 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine also found in the Ranger.
It produces 118kW/385Nm of torque, and can be specified with a manual or automatic gearbox.
Along with the existing 3.2 TDCi Automatic four-wheel drive derivatives - in XLT and Limited specification levels - a third 4x4 model is set to join the mix in the form of the 2.2 TDCi XLS, equipped with a six-speed manual.
Ford SA says that five all-new two-wheel drive Everest models will join the line-up for the first time. This includes a total of four 2.2 TDCi versions in a choice of either manual or auto, as well as the option of the mid-level XLS trim or the luxuriously appointed XLT. Topping the 4x2 range is a new 3.2 TDCi XLT Automatic.

In the last three months Toyota sold a monthly average of 1277 Fortuners, versus 106 units in the case of the higher-end Everest 3.2s, which currently retail for between R634 900 and R698 900. The only remaining question is to what degree Ford is going to narrow that vast sales gap."

Fortuner hasn't a patch on this vehicle and is pretty kark in comparison.

Last month, Ford revealed that its local Everest range would be broadened from two to eight derivatives, to include the new 2,2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine (worth 118 kW and 385 N.m). And now the automaker has released pricing for its updated range.
Production of the Everest at the Ford’s Silverton plant in Pretoria kicked off last month, which allowed this expansion of the local line-up. The new range starts at R453 900 for the two-wheel drive 2,2-litre Everest in XLS trim, fitted with a manual gearbox (undercutting the Toyota Fortuner 2,4 GD-6 by a mere R100).
Along with the two original high-spec 3,2 XLT and Limited 4×4 models (147 kW/470N.m), localised assembly sees the addition of six derivatives: five new 2,2-litre variants (in XLS or XLT trim), as well as the option of a new 3,2 XLT 4×2 model.
Alloy wheels are standard across the range, with 17-inch rims on the XLS, 18-inch units on the XLT and 20-inch versions on the Limited. All XLT and Limited models also feature the brand’s latest-generation SYNC3 infotainment system, while XLS models make do with SYNC1.
All three specification grades also include rear parking sensors linked to a colour reversing camera (on the 4-inch display for the XLS and the 8-inch touchscreen for XLT and Limited). All models come standard with a four-year/120 000 km warranty and five-year/100 000 km service plan (intervals of 20 000 km).
