New hate speech bill opened for public comment

I don't like that...

I don't want racists anywhere near me... We should just put them all on Robben Island and put more sharks in the waters...

How are you going to fit 45 000 000 people on robin island? Easier to just set up Libtardopia, where non-racists can live and support "equal" refugees. Actually, just move to Swedistan, it's an SJW utopia, and it's ahead of the curve when it comes to realising that us racists are right, so that'll save you some time.

And yet you haven't got one black racist before the courts, let alone fined...
Malema was found guilty of hate speech for singing "kill the boer" and both he and Shivambu were also found guilty for calling Zille "a racist little girl" iirc. In addition Shivambu was found guilty of calling a journalist "a white bitch" and he either paid a fine or apologised not sure which.

To be fair they should just be placed back in the community (with the 50 million other racists).

And each was fined R150 000?

But nice anecdotes. I can find a dozen that weren't taken to court, except I really only care about escaping this ****hole.

A hate crime is an offence recognised under any law, the commission of which by a person is motivated on the basis of that person’s prejudice, bias or intolerance towards the victim of the hate crime in question because of one or more of the following characteristics or perceived characteristics of the victim or his or her family member:
(a) Race;
(b) gender;
(c) sex, which includes intersex;
(d) ethnic or social origin;
(e) colour;
(f) sexual orientation;
(g) religion;
(h) belief;
(i) culture;
(j) language;
(k) birth;
(l) disability;
(m) HIV status;
(n) nationality;
(o) gender identity;
(p) albinism; or
(q) occupation or trade.

Like wtf…

It is absolutely ridiculous. By this list EVERYONE in this country should just be issued with a criminal record and get is over and done with. Like the Visa fiasco, the proposed bill is just a complete over reaction.

Why not let the court of public opinion deal with these matters? A 100/150k penalty seems pretty severe as it is.

Glad I’m not in the comedy industry. They are going to be sued left right and centre.

As soon as we have free education, I’m going to become a lawyer.

I have yet to meet a person in the world of any race, nationality, occupation/trade or planetary origin who would not break this law in some way, shape or form, when push comes to shove. Some are just better at concealing their prejudices for longer than others. Should be interesting.

That's nonsense. Most people are not criminals and wouldn't be effected by this

First Google result proves that you libtards have an endless supply of bull**** queued up to distract people who couldn't be bothered to check your facts.

That guy hasn't paid one cent. EIGHT YEARS later, the courts are still granting postponements and appeals.

Thanks, I hadn't had time yet to google but thought I'd give the benefit of doubt in the meantime. Seeing that he hasn't paid diddly diminishes the whole we're-equal-under-the-law argument somewhat. For the first quarter of 2016 all we heard about was the evil Sparrow. No ways was she slipping through the noose. This Qwelane guy was also high profile so the media would have had a harder time ignoring his story anyway, as well as the fact that he's a gay-basher and not just anti-white, which is very much in vogue right now.

Well then it must be the company you're keeping.
Most people I've ever known would not break this law.
Even though we recognise our inherent prejudices we do our best to transcend them and behave like decent human beings.
I'm sure most people here on myBB would not have any problems related to this law.
Honestly, it is actually quite easy to keep your pejudices in check, provided you're willing to recognise them and make an effort.

You've just insulted my beliefs based on the company I keep and the way I feel about it.
LOCK HIM UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Courts gonna be swamped. And this is but a drop in the ocean...

I'm sure that people like Ngwe will have absolutely no problem with each and every one of these upstanding citizens being banged up for a decade. :whistle:

Surely Hate Speech laws should protect the victim from consequences related to the speech. It should not simply be a law prohibiting free thoughts about others? If you express a private prejudice to a certain group of people, that should be allowed. However, professing a public criticism of a certain group of people with the intention of causing harm to them is what is important.

Everybody on earth feels a certain prejudice to certain groups of people. But calling on others to act on them is what is dangerous. We can't easily change people's private thoughts and feelings. But we can stop them from inciting others to act on those thoughts.

e.g. I can't stand purple people - they eat too many apples vs We should beat up purple people because they took away all our apples.

Nah, Malema was excused. Dubul' ibhunu was declared unconstitutional to utter or sing the phrases. Umshini wami on the other hand is open season to be uttered or sung.

Malema and Shivambu was taken to the high court by Zille, where it was ruled that the two must make a public apology to Zille, retract their comments and to settle Zille's legal bills. It was a defamation case.

Floyd Shivambu was heard by the ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee and received a three-year suspension, and where did he go then, did he sit on his arse for three-years?

So you have never said something ever that someone has taken offence to ? Not once ?

Not based solely on their race, gender, sexuality etc ... No.
I tend to offend people who don't like my point of view, based on disagreements in opinion, not because I attack who they are.
I've never offended someone purely because of their race or anything like that.

Why, have you?

More likely you live in a very small narrow little world, never travelled to Europe to witness the hatred between European nations? Or locally, the hatred of foreigners in SA's xenophobic culture? That is just to cite only two examples. Haven't even moved onto the other categories yet.

You've just insulted my beliefs based on the company I keep and the way I feel about it.
LOCK HIM UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah good luck with that one... Unfortunately for you it doesn't fall under the bill in question...

Just a really chilled vocabulary-nazi who gets upset with people who use the word 'gaol' instead of the more modern 'jail' :D
