New Iburst Acc Type

I would be better if I could buy extra gig's at a reasonable price (like neotel or cheaper R50), instead of being throttled down. 1gig cap last about 10 days and then I am on 64k. I wouldnt mind 128k, but I'd rather not being throttled at all. A bigger cap maybe? please? with seacom coming that would be nice.

Ah now that's not a bad idea, and would keep things a lot simpler.

I am a loyal iBurst customer since its inception and honestly I can blow 3 Gigs in two nights flat, no problem. I like iBurst for its reasonable speeds and so-so latencies, I also play a lot of FPS games online and so far iBurst made me happy.

I really think offering additional bandwidth at more reasonable pricing than the current structure would go down really well.

Also, what about making access to iGame servers free for iBurst users ie. not deducting it from our bandwidth? If that is too much to ask, then at least make it free after 20h00, when most of us play. And unshape it please.

Shaun, I will email this to your suggestions box, but methinks this thread should be kept alive and allow interaction between members to give you the full benefit (ito collaboration between members) which is lost with an anonymous mailbox.

And I agree, no b$tching here please, we are trying to help Shaun/iBurst to give us a better product.

Cheers R

The only thing iBurst has to do is drop prices OR increase caps. That's all.

The 64kbps service is an anomaly, it's a singularity, if you will. It's not something iBurps wants abused - it's there to tide you over till you can logon to buy a booster, so people who say they're with iBurst for that reason and expect iBurst to expand that aspect of the service are wrong - that bit costs iBurst cash. I don't think they will expand that way.

In fact I don't think iBurst can improve without taking a profit cut. They have to either increase the CAP or make the accounts significantly cheaper. R1000 for 10GB is incredibly expensive. The Rand may be a lousy currency, dependent on foreign appetite for gold but Africa is a poor continent and families survive for over a month on R1000, it's a bizarro setup to expect 10 lousy GB of bandwidth to cost that much considering Windoze updates and AV updates take a good chunk of that out each month.

iBurst has to drop their prices or keep the same prices and update the caps. They also have to do this transparently and let all users take advantage of it - when it comes - without any nonsense as we had previously - where people remained on old outdated, expensive packages while new sign-ups got better deals.

If iBurst is not able to pass the SEACOM savings onto the consumer, then people will abandon iBurst. It may very well be that in the next 2-3 months prices will drop 50%-100% or caps will double/treble at ADSL ISPs and if iBurst won't keep up, it will make financial sense to deal with the devil (Telkom) again and install those ADSL lines for an overall cheaper experience.

Hi all.

Someones suggestion regarding a higher capped speed drew some interest out of the Product team. I will press them for more info.

Thanks for all the suggestions to date.

Hey Shaun

Any idea when we will get an idea whats going with new product development? When will there be a release

Hi guys

They are currently doing studies across the board on all the suggestions which have been sent in.

I have been informed of some of these and I feel quite impressed with what you guys have come up with.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.

Please keep them coming.

Shaun,

Does the current system allow iBurst to exceed 1Mbps or is it complete new technology to exceed the current speed. Just curious.

And ya thanks for responding on our suggestions.

Hi Kaaskop

The limitations of the current equipment is up to 1 megabit per second. Two mbps devices are available in other countries. The infrastructure needs an upgrade to accomodate these 2 mbps devices.

Hope this answers your query.

Mondays - Don't you just love them?

One more Idea

Was just thinking maybe you could have a one day bolt on uncapped option. For example and extra 200 pm and you can pick one day a week that the service runs uncapped, we could use that day to schedule updates etc. If you allocate a limited amount of slots on each day of the week you can make sure that the network isn't overloaded by too many people flooding the network. Or perhaps an uncapped option for the time period of the day that the network is dead, eg 22:00 to 05:00. Just another idea.

Hi there

These have been suggested through the [email protected] mail box.

Product has started looking at all options.

Thanks guys and keep mailing them through.

Still think increased speed is a better option since I don't rape my connection but 1 Gig is nothing these days...I only want faster speeds to browse and do updates to Windows/Linux machines not for pulling 80 Gigs a month or something insane like that.

I agree with rudirautenbach

I gennerally blow 30% of my cap on iGame servers. (Yes, I spam cod4). Its just not playable at 64k. As I said before, I will willingly pay R200 a month extra to get that capped rate raised to a 256k. That way I can keep gaming and browsing isnt impossable.

Maybe even provide a full 1 meg speed to local places after 6PM on weekdays and weekends.... Just a thought

I noticed that, amongst myself, several other members sit with the problem that a significant amount of bandwidth is chewed every month on Microsoft product updates.

How about iBurst hosting the updates for all its members (for all Microsoft OS's and products generally used), and for a fixed subscription fee (lets say R50/month) in addition to the normal subscription iBurst would enable your user account to be able to access those updates without deducting it from your cap. Ie that particular traffic gets routed differently and would thus not deduct from your bandwidth.

iBurst could even make this "update" service available between say 10pm and 6am, so that it does not interfere with us playing COD4 :) and other users/businesses surfing the net and working during peak hours. All we need to do is leave our PC's on at night and the updates happen quick and at reasonable costs to everyone.

The R50/month should be determined by iBurst to make it a viable business case for itself, whilst keeping it attractive to its subscribers.

Before I email Shaun and his team with the suggestion on paper, can I get opinions from fellow users on this please?

Or is this a k@k idea? :)

Cheers Rudi

Hi Rudirautenbach

Give me a call tomorrow for a small glimpse at the future.

Thank you

Shaun,

Why not give us all a small glimpse, please?

I have seen romours / hints of 2mb's is this confirmed or hearsay ?

PS Telkom has stated that SAT3 is now in line with Seacom will this mean either price reduction or additional bandwidth allocation / speeds for us IBurst loyal clients?

PPS With Seacom's imminent activation will we see any benefits or is it just smoke and lazers?

OK guys

I think Jannie has let a small glimpse slip already.

2 mbps is under final testing.

Sorry I cannot give time lines.

sweet ... so now I can finish my cap even quicker :D ... do the modems we have support the 2mb or will they need an "upgrade"

Shaun,

That sounds good and all, but, big question. What will happen on the hardware side of things. We will have to buy new modems to be able to make use of the 2Mbits. What will happen with our current modems. Will we be able to trade in current hardware with a pay-in (not too much though) on a new modem or something down those lines?

If that is the case, I think a few guys wouldn't mind to get the new hardware. If not then... you get the picture?

I would stay with 1Mbit with much larger caps and/or faster capped speeds, but wouldn't mind 2Mbit.

Regards

Reptile

YES, you'll need a new modem. Cheaper b/w pricing is the only thing iBurst can offer of value. Faster speed is not necessary as I already get full 1 Mb/sec at even busy times of the day. An increase in caps by say, 50% would be great eg 10GB becomes 15GB, 5GB becomes 7.5GB etc.
