New iBurst Wireless Plus pricing revealed

So it would appear that neither Shaun nor Jannie plan on confirming our understanding of the new pricing.

Does this mean they're locked up tight behind closed doors having a serious re-think?(we should be so fortunate)

I am doing checks with Product on the status of the migrations and any possible changes.

Your understandings of the packages to date are correct.
 
So is that a formal confirmation of the 5gb 64kbit & 8Gb 128kbit issue?

Might be a stupid observation, but why wasn't that included on the original press release - seems like an important twist on the pricing.
 
No business is going to allow itself to be taken advantage of once it realises that there is a loop hole.
As you've noted, there are only a few (possibly) that has been using the loophole for a while. To be honest, i wish i'd realised that it was there, i would have preferred the saving over the full speed.

Thing is, if you are using it for business purposes, then the business should find a way to justify the new pricing, which, when looked at from a normal paying user's point of view is a saving. I'm on the 3g at the moment, which with the new packages will convert to 5 for the same price, or 2g + 3 boosters for a R45.00 a month saving for me. The throttle was just a stop gap and i usually ran out of cap towards the end of the month anyway, so i hope these all carry over in the new setup.

Hopefully it will drive the competition's prices down as a consequence.

I don't mind if they take away 64kbs and 128kbs altogether BUT give us at least uncapped and unthrottled at night. I'll even pay for a service like that (hopefully wont be that much). Then we can use our caps in the day and keep the download crazy people happy at night.

If full speed uncapped isn't possible what about 384kbs at night then?
 
Speculating that they are even listening or considering changes, how about them capping the softcap once it reaches the same as your subscription? That would still put some limit on the softcapper, but it would also motivate them to at least buy a bigger subscription.
At least it leaves some lee-way for those obsessive downloaders amongst us.

What understanding will that be? There are various scenarios listed in various threads. Please post it the way you understand it so that we know where we stand. If my choice is between a 128k R700 product or a 384K R700 product you know which one I am going to choose.

Don't give them idea that you're willing to take less because that's what you will get.
My current 5gig cap with the 64kbps after I've reached my cap works out cheaper for me than getting the new 8gig package. If I stay on the old package will I be able to topup with the new topup prices?

Shaun, that is such an ambiguous reply that I am inclined to think that you're dodging the issue!

So many people have speculated in so many combinations.

Lets re-ask the question:

Can the bolt on soft caps be had with any package under 5gig? If not please state how they can be combined in a clear and unambiguous way.

So that's a step in the right direction.

iBurst will be releasing an "Uncapped" package soon, but remember it will probably cost over R700.

Keeper mention this price to Jannie and he responded with a ":eek:"

The guys at ADSL are laughing at us for making a big deal about 64kbps.

That's dial up speeds and I wish that number would dissapear from the iBurst packages forever.

If you really want your 64kbps, then don't change to the new packages.

Give iBurst some time and we'll all might just be happy...:)

Mh where did you get that 90% from. Adsl guys can laugh all they want to but those of us that are complaining about the 64kbps know why we are complaining. We know how to maximise the use of that 64kbps speed.
 
Madhawk, thats easy to say.
But look at it this way. You say 90% of people are happy?
Those 90% are going to get a mail (miracles do happen) from iBurst telling them that their charges have dropped and they will be receiving more data for their money. They are going to be ecstatic. iBurst is then going to auto-convert them to the new packages, which will make that 90% even happier.

Do you think that the remaining 10%, the ones that are actually costing iBurst money with all the excessive downloading, are actually going to feature in iBurst's plans? I don't think so.
I could be wrong, but the way it will all come across to the man on the street is more stuff for less money, which will probably shrink that 10% even more.

A number of additional VAS services will be launched over the next few months including higher speed ‘All-day Uncapped’ and a number of ‘Off-peak Uncapped’ services.

Sorry, the secret's out. Not trying to give them ideas. They don't need it.
They have already basically cut the 64k loop-hole out and are busy stitching it up. Now they'll just wait to see how the market reacts to the new packages, making the minority of serious downloaders even more of a minority. Then you'll be given the choice, convert or 'commute'.

I can only speak for myself when i say that the only reason i'm on an iBurst solution is because my Telkom exchange sucks. Who would willingly pay more money for a slower line unless they had to? iBurst has us by the 'nads (my curlies have long since been ripped out).
My suggestion was merely to try and get out more than what iBurst is currently bringing to the table with the new packages.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the more people using iBurst the more congested the towers become, therefore the slower the DL speeds.

Now "if" in the past 10% of iBurst users downloaded at 64kbps 24/7, surely that must've effected the rest of the 90% users. If there were more than 10%, even worse.

I'm no expert, so I stand to be corrected.

I get your point. It's just that I find it frustrating that after waiting all this time for something only to see that this is what they have to offer. It makes financial sense for lots of customers who will only use their allotted 1 to 5 gigs and Ibursts marketing campaign will probably get them more customers. But as an Iburst customer that's part of the so called 10% I'm annoyed. I would get neotel but they don't have coverage for the prime package in my area.
