the July with no date gave it away. esp because Apple gave a specific date. either way, didnt expect it in July, so will be very suprised if it's here
Not for the SA release.

They specified a date for the initial release (USA, Canada, UK etc) - http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/wwdc2009/wwdc2009-840.jpg

Then the second wave of releases (incl SA) was a more general July 2009 - http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/wwdc2009/wwdc2009-842.jpg

Followed by a third release in Aug - http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/wwdc2009/wwdc2009-843.jpg
Why not just get a lap top with a wireless card? Much cheaper?
Because "is that a laptop in your pocket or are you pleased to see me" gets old pretty quick? :)

Has anyone got facts regarding the 3GS release in SA? Not a single Vodashop interview could tell me when they are getting the 3GS. In fact, most of the employees did not know about it.

"No, not the 3G, the 3GS."
"Do you mean the white one?"

I walk out.

Reminds me of the time just before the iPhone came out in SA-
VodaShop: "The iPhone ... what is that"
and just before the Express Data card was released
VodaShop: "What? You mean the USB card..."

I just give up.....

They should get a list with pricing prior to any release. Also some training is given for anything challenging.

I think I'll hold out until the battery / overheating issues have been sorted out on the 3GS.

Hot to touch 3GS a little off putting, and the thing frying and blowing up my head even less appealing.

Just been to Vodaworld in Midrand and they reckon it will only be available mid-August :(

While the iPhone may no longer be the coolest phone, the pink colour the phone assumes while overheating is a nice touch.

Mac are doing themselves in, by using Vodacom to distribute.

I purchased 3 original i-phones 2 years ago through alternate suppliers. Ive been into every VC shop I come across in the past 6 months and throw my credit card on the table........."2 i-Phones please, ring em up"......... the 2 standard answers I get are "We dont have stock" or better still "I cant sell you one without a contract".
"I already have two VC contracts, here are the cell numbers........I dont want to extend them, I like them on month to month, its my right so Ill pay cash rather please"...........It always ends with my standard "one-liner" ..... "Go shove your i-Phones up a dead bears bum"

(Nokia you are a shining example of how best to distribute products)

Uhm, they aren't the worlds leading cellular maker for nothing you know ;)

But I hope you get your two or twenty iPhones soon and that you will enjoy them. The world needs more iPhone users.

Well I really don't blame the VC shops for returning a bit of your attitude if you throw your credit card on the table. And if you end up swearing at them afterwards because they're following the policies and procedures laid down to them by HO then I REALLY don't blame them tbh.

BUT saying that, I don't really know why you're having a problem.. I walked into a shop 2 days after the Iphone 3G was released in this country and bought one for cash... no questions asked.

I dont start off with attitude, but it gets a bit frustrating and I just end up there, after hearing the the same "garbage" for months. How much of this can a person take?

I contacted vodacom and apparently you looking at a mid August release date. I replied saying that it was advertised as mid July and the response was that there is a delay in the process.

If you have a look at some of the Vodacom Rep replies on the hellopeter website, you will see the following:

- The official Apple release date for SA is "July '09", and NOT the 9th July. If you also look at the original Apple slide, that was shown at the presentation, you will see that it is "July '09".

- Apparently Vodacom is only receiving stock in early August '09.

- It takes about a week or so to get the stock through Customs.

Therefore, we can expect actual stock to be available in week 2 / 3 of August.

BUT: Vodacom needs to COME TO THE PARTY here ... update their website ... get some marketing information out to the public ... allow us to pre-order ... stop pissing off their clients !!!!!

:-/

No offense, but the constant whining and moaning is starting to get old. They will get the phone when they get it, You should know better than to get all hot under the collar because we receiving something like this late, it should be expected. This is SA.

If it is not here by the end of August then maybe you can get all pissy, but until then stop moaning and be patient.
