That's my worry. Remember the last time-frame Mr. Jobs promised? He was out by a few months on his own prediction....

Good thing it wasn't Jobs making the promises yesterday. :)

So the old Iphone 3G will be $99 now. R1000? Is that right?

$99 with a two-year plan from AT&T.

Gotta be honest, I'm a Mac / iPhone 3G user, and have never had a phone / device I've enjoyed so much and haven't lost interest in, does everything brilliantly, anyway my point is - the 3GS doesn't seem like a big enough upgrade for me to have to have it now, which is strange because I normally have to have.

The article says that Vodacom confirms it..... Why then would they lie? If they did in fact confirm it.

No , 'they' did indeed confirm it to rpm. But I want to double-check what this date actually means.

Might well be that the phones will be ready for shipping on that date. Which could mean it'll take a few weeks to get them into the shops.

yes..of course that would be Vodacoms excuse

Maybe we'll have delivery reports by then? Who am I kidding.. :o

Did not actually watch but was under the impression it was going to be his big comeback. Was he there?

Nope.. There was a lot of failage going on though in the demonstrations! Was quite entertaining watching the secret video stream :p

??? The article clearly states:"Vodacom confirms July launch of Apple iPhone 3G S in South Africa" and not "July shipping".

I can not see Vodacom making such a statement if they were not sure about their facts.

EDIT: Oh, it might mean that they will "launch" the ships with the iphones aboard. LOL

Do you guys still have to test phones to ensure it won't cause any stability issues on the network?

If so, this could push back the actual release date.

Surely the test units would be sent here to Vodacom before the launch date!?

Why would this push back the launch date? Should be done long before..

I am hoping to get one of these! Hope I don't have to pay in a small fortune

I'm going to have to buy one if i want one as i'm still involved with a contract until next year on MTN.

Something tells me the prices are going to be through the roof like when the iphone was first launched.

The first iPhone was only R7500 outright buy iirc.....

Not that horrendous a price for a decent smartphone

the iphone is worth R3000 at most in my opinion , there arent anything feature wise thats particulary spectacular about this phone apart from the apple logo on the side

And you've based this opinion on how many hours spent with the device?

Been a Mac user for ten years this year, and wont trade their computer hardware for anything. Im not an iPhone user though. You pay an absurd amount of money for a sub-par smartphone. Hate to say it but Blackberry and WM (and now to a degree also Nokia) offer much better touch phones at the same price, with much better features.

Havent used one much then huh?

Thank you sir. :)

How can I "book" an iPhone from Vodacom to make sure? They seem to keep limited stocks.
