The problem with the iTouch is that its too gimmicky and it fails at its
core function. It has a nice interface and is aesthetically pleasing to
the eye but it has a lot of drawbacks:
1. Low onboard capacity - 16GB even if SSD is low.
2. Limited codec support. H264 video at Baseline Profile only of limited
bitrate and resolution. No support for DivX or xViD video which is
very common on the web.
3. Low resolution screen. As someone used to high res portable screens,
my 2 year old Creative Zen Vision has 640by480 res, my Korean Cowon A3 has 800by480 and
my Japanese made Sharp WX-T92 has 854by480 at 3.2" - the highest resolution for any
mobile device in the world, so for me the iPod Touch should have at least
a res of 640by480 or even more (for its size). Maybe the upgrade will
include a high definition screen - who knows. Once you get used to the high
quality screen of the A3 of the high res of the CZV or the high contrast and
wide viewing angle (>160 deg) of
the Sharp, any other screen will look bland. So yes, a high res, high contrast,
wide viewing angle screen would be a good choice.
Very happy here to listen to music and watch videos on my cell phone.
