New iPods

Apple is expected to unveil hip new versions of its iPod MP3 music players on Tuesday at a theatrical "Let's Rock" event as rival Microsoft strives to focus the spotlight on its Zune devices.

For a music player that; won't stop playing when your phone rings, cannot send your current favorite track to a friend OTA and only accept music from one source, it is pretty popular. Just goes to show - there is a sucker born every minute.

You are much beter off with a XpressMusic/N-series/SE Walkman phone. Get a device that does it all (that includes taking videos and MMSing so the iPhone is excluded)

Burn fanbois - burn....

Mine lives in the car and provides me with an enjoyable alternative to Radio Algoa so until that one gives up the ghost I'm not in the market for another . . . unless Apple starts giving them away, in that case I'd really like a Touch for surfing on please :D

That's a pretty useful feature - Which dedicated mp3 players do that?

I've lost two Nano's....the first got stolen out of my car(stupid me) and the second one I lost at Suvarnabhumi airport as I passed through customs. Dunno if I'd get another one...coz the darn things are so tiny.

Why bother with dedicated anything ? Unless you want to look like someone on Safari with all those pockets and gadgets.

I have a N82 and it does everything and it does them better than most dedicated devices. Saving me time and money as well as using less power than having a dedicated device for everything. When it gets stolen, as most things in SA do, I can blacklist it and that that.

Because I dont like the idea of having all my eggs in one basket and one battery to ruin them all.

I like my blackberry for the phone/email, my ipod for the tunes, and my dSLRs for taking real photos. Even my point and shoot offers a higher quality image than any cellphone camera available today.

You shouldnt talk on the phone when you're driving anyway - its dangerous ;)

The article is about the new iPods not the iPhone, it's two different things........ well........ sorta. :)

My iPod is 2 years old now. Wonder if I actaully need to get a new one. Will see how this new one looks like and see.

Frack but you are hilarious! :p Dont drop it - never relent dude... its just too entertaining!

I'm very happy having separate devices. Wouldn't want to integrate everything even if I could.

Dude, u should become an official N82 evangelist, assuming u aren't already :D

But seriously, u r doing a good job of getting rid of any doubts I had in getting it :)

The problem with the iTouch is that its too gimmicky and it fails at its
core function. It has a nice interface and is aesthetically pleasing to
the eye but it has a lot of drawbacks:

1. Low onboard capacity - 16GB even if SSD is low.
2. Limited codec support. H264 video at Baseline Profile only of limited
bitrate and resolution. No support for DivX or xViD video which is
very common on the web.
3. Low resolution screen. As someone used to high res portable screens,
my 2 year old Creative Zen Vision has 640by480 res, my Korean Cowon A3 has 800by480 and
my Japanese made Sharp WX-T92 has 854by480 at 3.2" - the highest resolution for any
mobile device in the world, so for me the iPod Touch should have at least
a res of 640by480 or even more (for its size). Maybe the upgrade will
include a high definition screen - who knows. Once you get used to the high
quality screen of the A3 of the high res of the CZV or the high contrast and
wide viewing angle (>160 deg) of
the Sharp, any other screen will look bland. So yes, a high res, high contrast,
wide viewing angle screen would be a good choice.

Very happy here to listen to music and watch videos on my cell phone. :)

Q: What do you call someone walking down the street with a phone in his pocket ?
A: Normal.

Q: What do you call someone walking down the street with a blackberry, ipod and dSLR ?
A: Target.

Integrating saves you time and money. You are also kinder to the environment because you are using less energy and you have less e-waste in the end. Also, the impact on the environment is a lot smaller when making one clever phone as opposed to a phone, music player, camera, gps unit and what not.

People must think more about their environmental impact when buying new stuff. Besides, you are less likely to be a victim having one device in your pocket than carrying around an electronics fair.

It is a phone (and a lot of other things also) but it ain't a art work. If it was, then I would want it to be pretty. But since it is not - I do not care how it looks. Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.

I still have an iPod mini, and while I'd love a Nano, I'll stick with the mini a bit longer... I don't really need the nano, just like the smaller size :) But (a) I'd probably lose it, and (b) my Griffin Airclick and other accessories are for the mini, and wouldn't fit the nano and I really don't want to throw them all out and start again.

numbers 1 and 2 are already excellent reasons, imho :D
i think the itunes store has a lot to do with the ipod's popularity as well

My blackberry and ipod fit just as well in my pocket as any phone and I hate to break it to you but they dont make a phone that's as good as a dslr - they dont even make one thats as good as my point and shoot for that matter. ;)

As good as a dSLR - no, you are right, phones are not there yet, not even the fancy new 8mp ones coming out.

As good as a point'n'shoot : http://picasaweb.google.com/rouxenator/NokiaN82BestSoFar/ or just have a look at http://www.then82blog.com

I think you "get the picture" :-)
All those devices you are carrying is unkind to the environment in someway or another - thats why I use as little gadgets as possible.
