New LTE AUP from September 2016

Before then, only the bottom of the telkom.co.za site gave a clue of this product so sales were largely as a result of word of mouth, online articles (myBB) and getting lucky by seeing it on the Telkom site. I was wondering this as well, but IIRC DOTM is only anyway limited to the first 1000 signups? And assuming a fairly decent spread among supported areas- not all 1000 on one tower, so to speak.
 
The sad part in all of this is, Telkom whipped you so hard, you're only too happy to settle for a compromise- you shouldn't have to, we all signed contracts. Unlimited should be unlimited.

Here is the problem for a lot of us, we have no other alternative. For me personally I had 2Mbps ADSL for a long time and over time that copper began to degrade to the point where I would need to get Telkom out each month to fix cables, max sync on that line was 3-4Mbps even though they said my area supports 10Mbps on ADSL.

So when I signed up to this it was when they said that only the NNTP and BitTorrent traffic would be subject to AUP and the rest of the data is "truly uncapped and unthrottled". So for someone like me I will never go back to that ADSL connection and I have no fibre in my area. So yes it sucks and yes it really sucks that they did this, but unfortunately whatever they change it to, it will still be better than my broken 2Mbps ADSL with an upload speed that might as well not exist. My wife does a lot of uploading for her photography business and the LTE is just too amazing for that.
 
So I had a backlog of review games to download last night and took advantage of the speed to do so. However, this morning I have another SMS on my modem warning me that I am reaching my AUP cap. This is a sure sign that they increased the cap on this service from 250GB to whatever I am close to, I think I am almost on 400GB. I will let you know when my speeds drop again. Almost done downloading my Forza Horizon 3.

Same here i stay in midrand and we dont have telephone lines havent had for over 7 years now, there is LTA-A and everything by us, just that we live on plots so telkom wont install fibre either as each house is so far apart from one another. Metro has come around recently and told us that they would install but we still waiting for that to happen. use to have the Telkom 50GB package for R1399 per a month that was so expensive and painful. Then my father knowing people at telkom we were able to cancel that early, and get cash back funny enough. As vodacomBusiness launched 80GB for R649 per a month and then now we took up this uncapped LTE as Telkom is stupid fast by us. Just hope maybe they listened to that letter someone posted yesterday in which i think they estimated 400GB is fair or something.

Just dont be fools now people and go hammer this internet as i think if you go over 500GB telkom has the right to cancel your package, which i hope they will do.

Preaching to the choir... I was/am in the same boat. Had semi-stable 4mbps adsl that usually fell over if the wind blew too hard or the sky darkened a bit with some clouds. Now I'm on LTE (with barely better than 4mbps speeds- checked this morning, speedtest showed 13mbps). Things is, simply just don't feel that we have to compromise because they screwed up somwehere. That's why we have contracts. But hey, what do I know...

What is your current use if you message your router 188 ? Speedtest ? just wanna see

400gb or so is fair. Slow speeds at night for some users shows there is need for reasonable limits.

If we signed a contract for a capped service, then yeah, it's fair. Except, we didn't.
Just fyi- I've not even reached 100GB for the month, but I still that what Telkom is doing is wrong.

As someone myself who'll need to go the LTE route next year at some point, I agree with 400GB being fair. Hell, I don't even do more than 250GB a month on average with my 40mb fibre line :)

I agree with you completely, but sadly the network can't handle truly uncapped which means they do need to do something. If it was a fibre connection i would accept nothing less than 100% uncapped.

If i understand correctly, you have have the option to opt out then, penalty free.

Yes but I don't want to opt out- I'm still better off than I was with ADSL. As stated, currently I'm not affected by the cap- but that's not the point.

I agree totally. We mustn't compromise but not abuse the system at the same time. We signed up for uncapped and unthrottled. It's called video on demand for that reason when I want to stream.

I also don't want to police my kids and tell them when they can and can't watch YouTube and Netflix. I mean do you tell your kids today you can't eat anything you want like you would on a normal day? Of course not we don't because it is there for that reason.

All I am saying is don't let Telkom bully us. We the customer and we the ones that keep them in business.

Then what would you have telkom do?, their infrastructure does not support it, so what other options do they have?
