New LTE AUP from September 2016

Unbelievable how thick headed and unreasonable some people can be.
We all know its supposed to be unlimited, everyone has knows this, 77 pages will tell you this. Telkom's infrastructure cant handle the load, what are they suppose to do?????
If you are not happy, opt out, you have the option.

It is not thick headed to insist on that which both parties had agreed to. This is wat we are paying for. Try and pay only 10% of your monthly instalment, see what happens- go ahead, I'll wait.

Yes, obviously it is clear their infrastructure can't handle the load. But how is that my problem? I am not Telkom, and I do not work for them. Harsh, maybe? Sure is, but that is simply the way I feel.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure this product was drawn up and signed off before their marketing department got the go-ahead to put a spin on it. Having worked on premises at a cellular provider, I'm pretty sure about this- still a guess, but an educated one.

And also, I'll ask again- regarding streaming of Netflix and 4K content. The calculations done in this thread has taken a single 1080P stream as a base. But 4K is here and I'm sure there are people that have the hardware to stream in 4K. So how will this compromise everybody seems happy to strike, affect said group of users? Granted, they are probably in the minority, But they too signed up for a service that would accommodate their much heavier use. Are they then also abusers of the system? A single 4K stream is about 7GB an hour- more than double that of 1080P (as per Netflix website)- and that's just a single stream.

Or if you are Zuma with 20 kids.
Point is different household will have different usage.

If you have 20 kids streaming everything in HD, it influences the entire network.
Rather tell your 20 kids they have to stream SD than spoiling it for everyone.

But If telkoms infrastructure does not support it, they cant just say open for all, go bos.

Maybe telkom should cross question applicants and do house to house inspections before they approve their contracts.

It's hard to say what is abuse. My opinion is anything over 800gb should be considered abuse. I mean last month I binged watched teenwolf on Netflix at 1080p, while the kids did what they usually on YouTube and Netflix and the wife watched her series and everything else browsing, emailing, online gaming and updating. I did 600gb. So for a household to do 2.5tb, you must have an army living there.

And if you change that 1080p to 720p it would have been closer to 500gb :p
Lets hope Telkom gives us the limits this time.

When we have the limits we can start trying to limit our own usage and be more conservative.

One of the major issues was Telkom did not inform anyone about the limits and we got hit out of the blue. If Telkom warned us before hand, everyone could have managed their usage better.

Telkom need to stipulate in their AUP what the limits are. Maybe even include that your service will be cut if you exceed 1tb.

If you are not happy, opt out, you have the option.

And simply put, Telkom cant deliver on what they said, moaning and whining wont change this, If something is not possible its not possible, What they did was wrong, yes, but that wont change.
With most things in life, if you are not happy, cancel and find another provider that caters for your needs. Telkom has said there will be no cancellation penalties

My only concern with the threshold being too high is speeds will again drop, complaints will start, and Telkom will once again lower the threshold or increase shaping. At this point i want a fair number, and i want to bank on it going forward. A game of ping pong back and forth is not going to be pleasant.

The options are simple:
  1. Push for an acceptable compromise. Or,
  2. Walk away from your contractual obligation because the provider changed the product.

That's it. No other options exist. You don't have to like it, but those are our choices. Streaming in 1080p or 720p isn't going to give anyone leprosy.

And as I've stated before, I'm not affected yet (I've used less than 100GB for the month), and as I've stated before, that's not the point.

My question about 4K content is still unanswered (although this was pointed to the thread as a whole, and not specifically at you Lament).

I understand your point, We signed up for an uncapped, unshaped, unlimited LTE product. We want what we paid for. But again, They di not have the infrastructure. There is nothing they can do about it, they cant magically upgrade and install new towers over night. They sold a service and cant provide. They were wrong.
Now that being said, As HapticSimian mentioned, we have 2 choices
1. Find a reasonable FUP that wont degrade the network for everyone
2. Cancel.

There is no 3 option.

For that guy providing a high school with internet, 2.5tb might be normal :crylaugh:

Sorry but that isn't normal for a school because for one they are a business and this ain't a business product. They will need to get a product that will suit there requirements.

If someone here does get throttled again it's important to know how much they used so we can judge if telkom has indeed solved this issue or if they merely just added 50gb extra to make it 300gb

Yeah, someone needs to guinea pig for us...*looks @Sand_man with his 2 accounts :crylaugh:

So i've been on this contract for about 4 months, in that time my speeds never changed... Off peak i get +-30mbs and in peak around 20mbs. Im happy with that. Got 4 family members all streaming simultaneously with no issues. Why are we chasing 70mbs+? 20mbs is over enough speed for multiple device streaming... So i dont see where these "abusers" are affecting other customers to a point where your internet is unusable. I had a 10mbs uncapped adsl account before i got this, had it for over 4 years, and yes at the beginning i was download happy, downloaded nonesense just because i could, but as i matured into the internetness, downloads stopped and streaming became the norm... So with saying that, with all my streaming (a game here and there, legally, averaging 50gb a game) i average around 500gb a month, and damn straight im streaming 1080p. The only reason i changed from adsl to this was for the speed, my area only supports 10mbs adsl, i attempted to go 20mbs vdsl but my line was unable to. My average hasn't changed, i still average 500gb a month, so i honestly honestly dont know how they can deem 250gb to be enough. Anyways, im taking up the offer that Telkom has presented to cancel the contract without penalties. Im not an abuser, 500gb is quite average in my eyes, hitting 700gb+ is abusive. Anyways, atleast with my 10mbs acc i can do 700gbs if i wanted to because other ISPs are clear about their AUPs before throttling. Im not willing to be in a 24 month contract with these thieves.

Below you can see my usage from my previous 10mbs acc... 250gb is a joke.

Someone here has already said they are at 400GB since last night as he was downloading some games and got a new AUP message. so it looks like it might be 400GB or 500GB the limit

That's acceptable at least.
