I would say better planning and maybe do a lot more testing. Don't over subscribe the service if you know its limits. In any business if you want to expand you need to upgrade your infrastructure.

I don;t think we have in this case. We fought pretty hard and found a happy compromise which gets us what we need and protects the speed of the network. It's a net positive for everyone because it should result in higher speeds than before. Those doing 2.5tb are using the wrong tech in their quest to download the internet. Someone doing that much should really get a fibre connection.
I agree, better planning was needed and i hope a few heads will roll because of this. A "upgrade the infrastructure" will not happen over night, this will take months, even years.

I agree with this. If the limit is 400gb i would say that's a fair compromise and everyone is happy. Some more happy than others. Unfortunately you cant please everyone.
400gb is not abuse, thats normal use
500gb is touching abuse
600gb+ is abusing

Bull 600Gb is average use for a family.
But I am willing to use adsl in my case. For those who dont have an alternate its not fair. Period.
True. For now maybe a bit more reasonable concerning throttling. Yesterday I was put onto 256kb and it was like going back to dialup speeds. I think once you have reached your cap 4mb is liveable but nothing slower than that.
Using 600gb is bull, We are a fairly heavy usage household and we have never done 600gb, even when downloading games.
If you use 600gb you have to start looking at that you are doing. Change your Video streams to 720p rather than 1080p.

Agreed, but to be honest this is partly the fault of those who felt the need to download the entire internet every month just because they could. Those people who just hoard things and never actually watch it or play what they downloaded. I mean my tower is literally about 30m from my router, so without any attached antennas I get about 70 - 90Mbps almost all the time, with a ping that never exceeds 30ms ever, mostly it is at 15ms. During peak moments I drop to about 30 - 50Mbps. Given all this and the fact that it is uncapped I still have no need to abuse the system, so why should I be punished with those who do?
In any case, I feel that 400GB is fair given that we share this service with people who feel the need to abuse. The only trick is that all content is becoming larger and larger and that means that downloading a few games a month gets you to 400 very quickly.
But that has been lifted now?
And i agree, 256kb is BS.
Telkom needs to give us the limits, When we reach the given "soft cap", we need at least 2mbps to still be able to use the internet.
Unbelievable how thick headed and unreasonable some people can be.
We all know its supposed to be unlimited, everyone has knows this, 77 pages will tell you this. Telkom's infrastructure cant handle the load, what are they suppose to do?????
If you are not happy, opt out, you have the option.

Don't think this will last my LTE Pings are creeping up again hitting 80ms+ on idle was 23ms yesterday so yeah people are having a feast on said tower XD
Tell the real abusers that they have to terminate their contracts.
Sure, But will this be enough?
What is real abuse?, some people will tell you 2.5tb is normal for their household.

So your definition of heavy user is something different from the next persons.
I personally use about 350 GB on a 10Mbps line without much streaming, just games, updates, Skype and occasional YouTube video. As more and more content is becoming available in better quality, more people will move over to streaming. Setting a "reasonable" cap now that is near many users usage, are you sure it's going to be enough at the end of your contract? 2 years ago my usage was maybe 50GB on a 4Mbps line.
Then you get those with no alternative. They have no alternative besides Telkom LTE. What about all those who got it to upload streams and back up data? Dsl is useless for upload, especially compared to LTE.
Lastly. It was not in the terms of the contract. They can sign up new users with those T&Cs.

Agreed people wanting to do over 400GB must then go and complain at every package any iSP has to offer. Telkom is giving us a real awesome deal here paying R800 for something that gives you 400Gb is even the best deal possible. You go try get those speeds at any other isp and come back with a better price. Even uncapped business Vdsl from afrihost go look how much that costs for 40Mbps account R2800 per a month and that's only 40 now my minimum speed I get is 50Mbps in my area on this telkom. In my view this is one hell of a deal. So go elsewhere then if you want to abuse to system with more than 400GB heck afrihost mobile wants R900 for 10gb go pay there and be happy

Point is different household will have different usage.
If you have 20 kids streaming everything in HD, it influences the entire network.
Rather tell your 20 kids they have to stream SD than spoiling it for everyone.
But If telkoms infrastructure does not support it, they cant just say open for all, go bos.
It's hard to say what is abuse. My opinion is anything over 800gb should be considered abuse. I mean last month I binged watched teenwolf on Netflix at 1080p, while the kids did what they usually on YouTube and Netflix and the wife watched her series and everything else browsing, emailing, online gaming and updating. I did 600gb. So for a household to do 2.5tb, you must have an army living there.
