New LTE AUP from September 2016

Someone here has already said they are at 400GB since last night as he was downloading some games and got a new AUP message. so it looks like it might be 400GB or 500GB the limit

Originally i got the message at 150GB, so they gave me 50GB leniency, So it might be 450 if he got it at 400GB. 450GB would be fantastic.

Using 600gb is bull, We are a fairly heavy usage household and we have never done 600gb, even when downloading games.
If you use 600gb you have to start looking at that you are doing. Change your Video streams to 720p rather than 1080p.
Why should I change to 720p? I dont download games. Pure streaming and it has been up to 600Gb. Hdman same figures.
Your game downloads cause more problems than my streaming.

400-500 is ideal in my eyes and highly reasonable with these types of speeds.

How do you "abuse" something that is supposed to have no limit?
It seems there is a problem with my dictionary...
Because he downloads on a streaming product hogging the bandwidth during downloads.

Af FFS...whatever. Be inconsiderate. Let us go through this in 3 months again.

Sure, But will this be enough?

What is real abuse?, some people will tell you 2.5tb is normal for their household.
Where have you seen this besides Jacqui propaganda?
The 1Tb is a school which Telkom should terminate.

I'll be happy with 400-500gb, 450gb is the most I've ever done during my first month when I was just loading half my steam library amazed at the speeds.

Don't think I will reach 300gb again.

Agreed people wanting to do over 400GB must then go and complain at every package any iSP has to offer. Telkom is giving us a real awesome deal here paying R800 for something that gives you 400Gb is even the best deal possible. You go try get those speeds at any other isp and come back with a better price. Even uncapped business Vdsl from afrihost go look how much that costs for 40Mbps account R2800 per a month and that's only 40 now my minimum speed I get is 50Mbps in my area on this telkom. In my view this is one hell of a deal. So go elsewhere then if you want to abuse to system with more than 400GB heck afrihost mobile wants R900 for 10gb go pay there and be happy
Did they offer me streaming? If you look at AH offer you are basically getting virtually uncapped outside 18pm - 24pm.
I had telkom adsl with softcap and used vox as backup. I ended up 600Gbs excess rollover data on vox promo of 150GB.
My Afrihost used 9Gb on Saturday mostly 2 kids youtubing. Average is 4-5Gb on AH to date.
I am using LTE for streaming. I did not ask for the price and many cancelled their products for this.

Telkom made a willing seller willing buyer offer and contracted to provide a streaming product. Reduce number of users, limit to streaming or increase towers. Its hardly my problem if they planned poorly?
Many avoid contracts because in the padt Telkom kept you to your contract even if you were unhappy with their service. Now that the roles are reversed consumers must allow breach of contract?

It is not thick headed to insist on that which both parties had agreed to. This is wat we are paying for. Try and pay only 10% of your monthly instalment, see what happens- go ahead, I'll wait.

Yes, obviously it is clear their infrastructure can't handle the load. But how is that my problem? I am not Telkom, and I do not work for them. Harsh, maybe? Sure is, but that is simply the way I feel.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure this product was drawn up and signed off before their marketing department got the go-ahead to put a spin on it. Having worked on premises at a cellular provider, I'm pretty sure about this- still a guess, but an educated one.

And also, I'll ask again- regarding streaming of Netflix and 4K content. The calculations done in this thread has taken a single 1080P stream as a base. But 4K is here and I'm sure there are people that have the hardware to stream in 4K. So how will this compromise everybody seems happy to strike, affect said group of users? Granted, they are probably in the minority, But they too signed up for a service that would accommodate their much heavier use. Are they then also abusers of the system? A single 4K stream is about 7GB an hour- more than double that of 1080P (as per Netflix website)- and that's just a single stream.
Fully agree.

And simply put, Telkom cant deliver on what they said, moaning and whining wont change this, If something is not possible its not possible, What they did was wrong, yes, but that wont change.
With most things in life, if you are not happy, cancel and find another provider that caters for your needs. Telkom has said there will be no cancellation penalties
They would since they actually obligated to pay costs for alternate providers.
Oh sorry they allowing it out of the goodness of their heart

My only concern with the threshold being too high is speeds will again drop, complaints will start, and Telkom will once again lower the threshold or increase shaping. At this point i want a fair number, and i want to bank on it going forward. A game of ping pong back and forth is not going to be pleasant.
What is impact of netflix. Can they not reduce speeds to eg 10mbps? And 4mbps after 400/600Gb?

The options are simple:
  1. Push for an acceptable compromise. Or,
  2. Walk away from your contractual obligation because the provider changed the product.

That's it. No other options exist. You don't have to like it, but those are our choices. Streaming in 1080p or 720p isn't going to give anyone leprosy.
2. And have telkom pay for alternate product/s

I understand your point, We signed up for an uncapped, unshaped, unlimited LTE product. We want what we paid for. But again, They di not have the infrastructure. There is nothing they can do about it, they cant magically upgrade and install new towers over night. They sold a service and cant provide. They were wrong.
Now that being said, As HapticSimian mentioned, we have 2 choices
1. Find a reasonable FUP that wont degrade the network for everyone
2. Cancel.

There is no 3 option.
Legally Telkom in breach and must pay for alternates.
