New Mustang headed for SA

If you're buying a car in that range because it has 4 seats and a boot, then the equivalent priced Merc/BMW/Audi/Jag will be a much better bet as far as I'm concerned.
Not disagreeing with you, I just don't think that the 4C has the same market in mind at all. The Mustang can be used as a practical daily drive. You'd be pushed to so that with a 4C. It's far more likely to spend its life as a second car/weekend toy.

To a degree I am on the same boat as you, but I also disagree...

I think they are aimed predominantly at the same market, it just so happens that the Mustang has 4 seats and a boot whereas the 4C is a more focused "fun" machine.

Not really. The one has 4 seats and a boot. The other... Not.

Same price bracket (give or take). I do think it has the same target market - someone looking for a 'fun' car to drive. Comes down to American muscle or Italian art, and which one you prefer.

Why can't you use a 4C as a daily drive? The same engine in my QV, which I use for daily driving. That's what I was contemplating in any event if I had to get one.

But then again may be I am confused because I want both :)

Because you're sacrificing an awful lot of practicality with the 4C. It's not exactly spacious. Hell, you'd struggle to fit even a moderate amount of grocery shopping in it. It's a great car, I'm going to test drive it as soon as I can, but I wouldn't have it as my only car.

That's a fair point. Best compromise is one of each then.

Arnold Chatz had the 4C this weekend AFAIK. All cars on order book already sold - least that is what I was told.

Which is exactly what I said :p In my mind, the Mustang is for someone that has only one parking space or has another reason not to have a toy in the garage.
If I do end up with something like a 4C, I'd probably get something like a Polo TDI automatic for daily drive duties.

You people have no commitment..

You get the 4C and you make it work :p

Although for that kind of money, the F-Type is the one I'd sign the papers on, in a hearbeat.

I'll wait until we get actual confirmed prices for the Mustang (although I am definitely not in the market for one or anything close to it).

I heard on Top Gear that the UK would not be getting the V8 version of the Mustang. If that is true, I wonder if we would get the V8 version?

I hope we do get 5L v8 , even know i would never be able to afford it , i would love to hear it :P

Ford US has stated, the US buyers will get first preference on the V8 units. And their order books apparently , extend to more than 12 months.

The entire V8 engine line is going to go like hot cakes. I bet that you will not see any V8 units for sale in the early months.

Which is untrue with the latest variants,

When Road and track says 'the new mustang goes around corner better than an //M car', then I will refrain from saying this.

But stock , the US model car will be biased for comfort. The germans, will find a good mix.

You need serious aftermarket suspension add ons before the handling becomes good.

Starting from £28,995, the 2015 Ford Mustang seriously undercuts conventional rivals such as the equivalent BMW 4 Series and Audi A5. The 5.0-litre V8 model costs from £32,995, another reasonable figure considering the performance on offer.

So the V8 should be around R650 000 or less at 20 to the pound, unless Ford SA are going to price gouge us just because it's a mustang.

EDIT: A Focus ST3 is R427 900 and GBP 26295 in the UK. So that's roughly 16.27 conversion ratio.

Based on that (and updated prices from ford.co.uk):

Mustang 2.3 Manual R471 000 (GBP 29995)
Mustang V8 Manual R553 098 (GBP 33995)
