So my modem-router got hit by lightning.
It was still the router that I got from Afrihost a couple of years ago and was a piece of cr@p - so not too upset. Have a back up, at least.

Looking to buy a new one and am asking for your recommendations.

I would like the following (if possible):
1. Dual band wifi
2. Ability to set up vpn on router (privateinternetaccess)
3. Ability to boot devices from network (could do this using the Netgear Genie App on my old router through Access Control)
4. High security

If there any other features I should be looking at, please advise.

Budget: Around R2000 - R3000
Internet: 10 mbps adsl

Look forward to your expertise.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT
Was looking at this one for R3500 from Takealot:

For that price, get any Modem of your choice, then get something like this for routing:

https://m.takealot.com/#!product?id=PLID46625507

Or

And something like this for Wifi:

You get a POE unit so you power the device over the ethernet cable. You can then place it in the best location without having to worry about power points.

You can also look at a mikrotik Hap ac 2 if you can get stock.

All of this in your budget and it will outperform an all in one device. (Also just shop around for best prices)

There are many knowledgeable people here for Mikrotik or Ubiquiti questions.

The Asus is brilliant. I have the same one: mesh wifi, excellent signal, dual CPU's, gigabit lan, good QOS, built in ddos & firewall, VPN support.

Also easy to configure, I kept the same router when I switched from ADSL to fibre. The only thing I would add is a UPS for loadshedding.

Blixem, but vat-a-lot is expensive. COMX is about 40% cheaper!!

The equipment that you linked to is fantastic - I bought an Edge Router X and an AC-Lite almost a year ago and I'm VERY happy with the performance.
