If you think that the interior is econobox, then I give up - go and live with an AMG then.
I have a WRX btw.
The interior has improved. But it still lags behind the others.
All the WRX's AND STI's are made in the same plant in JPN.
In other countries the prices difference of the WRX and the high end luxo barges is large. In SA the pricing leads people compare the cars in this price segment. Unfortunately they cater to two different tastes.
As a scoob owner. I prefer to emphasize the positive points and also admit there are areas where it could be better.
The NEW WRX is technologically a leap. One that subaru has not taken on a new engine in a LONG time.
I think SUBARU JPN has realised their biggest market is the USA. And they are tailoring the WRX to fit into the demands of most people in the US . A car that can carry four people to mac Donalds and not spill any drinks. I do not think this is necessarily a bad thing. The market for main stream cars is huge. The market for rally rockets is small.
The NEW WRX is essentially a fast medium saloon. Comfortable, soft, middle of the road. Power outputs have stayed the same.
I have driven both the WRX and BRZ on the same day. I prefer the BRZ as it is more sporty to drive, even with 40kw less power.
It is a shame that the pricing strategy in SA is so bad, that the BRZ is now custom order only, yet the 86 is flying out the door. When I bought my car, the price mark up was 50K , not sure what it is now, but it has to high to sustain a sales figure of only +-100 per month.
The rally DNA(if you like) has been watered down in every subsequent generation. And been strangled by emission laws. I still would rather have the WRX in it current form(evolving) than in a state like SAAB.
