New The PC Build Thread

After 15 years, and being without a dedicated gaming PC for 7, I think it's time to take the plunge again:

Wootware Build

Budget is R35k max, with a preference to Intel/Nvidia and Razer. However, am willing to consider other options.

Would like at least 2 years before upgrading/replacing parts or entire system.
As @UrBaN963 said, that cpu is useless for gaming in your budget.
It's great if you want the pc to use almost no power when idling though :P .. and be nothing more than a glorified office pc.
Even the core ultra crap from intel is not worth the small power plant it still needs compared to Amd.

Gaming graphics card is totally a personal preference.

Nvidia sheep love their dlss and live under the illusion that amd cards still overheat and drivers are bad and break every day
Amd users party all day long with much cheaper cards, for a minor performance loss in most cases (if you compare equivalent models, except high end, since yeah, nvidia is king on that sadly)

Its also a preference to FSR vs DLSS vs no upscaling etc. Best to look up some videos on those 2 cards mentioned and see which image quality you prefer ( 4060 8gb vs 7600 16gb, the 7600 will have the edge though )

Since theres a 1440p monitor in the mix, also look at B580 cards from intel, they are quite good performing 1440p cardsfor the price. (and the higher tier cpu's linked wont have the driver overhead issues that the midrange cpu's suffer from)

So I understand your Intel/nVidia preferences. However, there is no reason anybody should be buying an Intel CPU in 2025 if it's for a gaming PC.

And definitely not that weird thing you linked, that's a definite no.

I've taken you the AMD route as well as an AMD GPU - the 7600 XT.

Foe the GPU, definitely get whatever you feel you need - if you have a specific requirement for the nVidia GPU then grab that. If not, the 7600 XT is faster, especially at 1440p.

About the CPU, was messing around with the AI wizard, think I had initially set the budget at 15k, and modified from there, not realising what a shyte CPU was there, lol.

Thanks for all the suggestions, will go through them, and post a revised build here.

R37k can fiddle with the GPU to get it down
or you could drop the 7800x3d for the 7500f (the 7600x without the iGpu)

You've left the man without a screen, keyboard or mouse :D

Also don't let the AMD Mafia make you buy something you don't want if you are not into it. The i5 14600 is a great CPU.

The i5-14600 is a solid CPU for 2 months. After that...who knows.

Also, there is no upgrade path there. AM5 gives him years of upgrades.

Anyone know when more 5090's are back in stock? The cheaper brands (Palit etc)

The i5 voltage never reached the degradation threshold it was more a i7 i9 issue.
The problem has also been fixed with microcode that wont allow the voltage to exceed safe limits.
So not a problem anymore. Id advocate for decent cooling as they run hotter but I wouldnt use that as an excuse not to buy one.

If you go dd5 and PCIe 4.0 on the MB you are also good for a long time still and have the option to upgrade to a i7 14 gen if needs be.

The problem is, Intel's trust is ruined.

People wont willingly go for 13/14th gen now and knowing the core ultra range is kak, they rather go for what they know works on team red

As a result the pricing is better on the intels from the comparisons I've done.

Ive also been burned by the red guys more than once while my blue guys have never let me down. Looking at the failure stats it just looks like bad luck but as a result I prefer my intel machines.

Its always a risk with being an early adopter with the first set of chips to market of a new range. Its better to wait and let them work out the kinks.

Alright, thanks for the advice and so forth posted here. Call me what you like, but I am still biased towards Intel and Nvidia, but did indeed consider, and might still, the AMD options:

Wootware V2

Is there any throttling going on between mobo, gpu and cpu that I should be concerned about here?

I am really not a serious gamer, and certainly not online/multiplayer (I found the toxicity of online gaming tedious), so 200fps vs 100fps probably wouldn't matter to me, tbh, or something like that. I drive trucks, fly aircraft, and build the odd city/airport, primarily.

Check out the team group ssd's. Longer warantees faster read write eg:

Check for Intel XMP support on the ram. The ones you have are AMD optimised something like these:

The only other thing is whether you need WiFi/Bluetooth onboard. Its worth going for a more expensive MB like one of the ASUS TUF WiFi if that's the case.

The case you picked means you will have to mount the AIO you have in the front or go with the smaller 240mm AIO. The fans are also permanently on RGB you cannot change them.

  • Can easily hold a 240 mm AIO in ceiling, even push/pull
  • LED on/off switch built-in
  • Pre-wired fan cabling
  • Should be able to hold a 360 mm radiator in the front
I would pick a different case with argb fans
