Superflower psu.. hardly pinching pennies there :P They usually make the psu's for corsair etc without the logo tax on it

Just a question, what difference does an expensive Mb make? I mean maybe wifi but most use cable anyway

It’s rated bronze. It’s inefficient. Like I said, OCD, probably doesn’t matter :p

It depends, some cheap mobos are really good, but in general they have poor power delivery circuitry and smaller heat sinks which is both an issue for performance and durability. Sometimes the cost cutting is just related to features you don’t need and the quality is where it counts, then it’s fine.

I can’t remember if it was here or on another forum where somebody calculated the difference in power draw of bronze vs gold/platinum and came to the conclusion that you just end up paying the cost difference in electricity.

No idea on 5090's. Did try to get a gaming trio 5080 from titan ice today, told me they only expect no stock in a month and half 😔

Is there any throttling going on between mobo, gpu and cpu that I should be concerned about here?

I am really not a serious gamer, and certainly not online/multiplayer (I found the toxicity of online gaming tedious), so 200fps vs 100fps probably wouldn't matter to me, tbh, or something like that. I drive trucks, fly aircraft, and build the odd city/airport, primarily.

I've read through the thread and I see you have some preferences but just wanted to point out that you could get a graphics card that's 50% faster at 1440p if you went a slightly different route.

1) Swapped the AIO for a perfectly-suitable air cooler
2) Swapped the memory for the non-RGB version
3) Swapped the monitor for a lower refresh version - I'd suggest keeping the original monitor if possible. 100Hz works for the use cases you described and the cards you're looking at now won't usually do 100fps at 1440p without trickery. But a monitor is a long-term thing so maybe there'll be a use for the addition 80Hz in the future.
4) Swapped the mouse for a better one.
5) I also think you should be getting AMD but wasn't going to touch that one.

It's a card in a different class so better in every way...there is a 4060 Ti in the same price range but that's also inferior (the 8Gb version).

And if you are looking at possibly getting a 6700xt/6750xt.. that chart above is outdated, drivers updates makes them trade blows with the 3070, some models the 3070ti
 
I have updated the build based on comments here:

Wootware - v3

- Replaced AIO with Air Cooler
- Changed out case, SSD and Memory
- Removed mousepad, I have enough lying around here, do I need a fancy one, and LOVE my deskpad (that I got from Pep of all places) at work
- Replaced mouse (I really loved my DeathAdder v1 previously though, especially for fine work in FPS games)
- Replaced monitor

I appreciate the advice re. AMD as well, and am well aware of Intel's history, but still not quite convinced enough to change.

The revised build has given me a bit of wriggle room cost wise, but while my budget is 35k, does mean I necessarily need to spend it all.
 
Welp, you can lead a horse to water and all that.

Build looks good overall. I still think you're making a mistake going Intel given that it is a dead platform and the issues they have had. You essentially have one CPU upgrade option and that would be an upgrade to a CPU that is already soundly beaten by AMD.

That doesn't take into account the future-proofing AMD provides, with support for additional generations of CPUs for some years yet.

Either way, the build looks good as is. If you're going the Intel route you could go for faster RAM, the Intel CPUs do benefit from the increased clock speeds.

For an additional R550 you can upgrade to DDR5-6400 CL30. Not sure that's totally worth it, just something to consider. Going DDR5-6400 CL32 gives the same latency (10ns), but could help if bandwidth is a bottleneck in some application.
 
RAM is the only one Id change as the one you selected is AMD optimised and not Intel XMP. Dont bother going faster as the CPU cant use anything more than 5800MHz from the testing Ive seen so the extra money isnt worth it.
A 850W gold power supply would be more future proof but you are probably just over half the wattage at peak for the current setup so have some room.

This is nonsense.

That CPU will happily support faster RAM speeds.
