New TV station

SA’s newest TV station, Cape Town TV (CTV), is planning to start broadcasting to the greater Cape Town area in August being awarded a one year renewable community broadcast licence by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa).

Another one just like soweto tv?

Doubt many people are gonna watch it.

I never watch tv :(

Okay wait, I watch TV SERIES, I just don't watch actual TV anymore :D

Yeah, that's what I mean.

We need a R200/month "watch all you can download off torrents" product.

More competition to the SABC AND ETV is great!
Bring on community TV!

Community TV. Something that hasn't been explored too often in SA.

What are the chances that will be broadcast in digital??
Analog no doubt

Heard artical today on SAFM about a warning to consumers we might get dumped with old analog TV's floading the market cheap and must make sure if you buying a new tv it is digital ready.....Whahaha - all the tv's and even the HD plasmas and lcd's costing a fortune are been flogged to us here are all pretty much not digital!

So the sadest part is, it's been dumped on us here in Africa already for the last few years, ...and it ain't cheap either ....and we too dumb to know any better.... Must be the last place in the world you can still buy a square 4:3 tv as well Thing is I nearly baught a R10 000+ LG flatscreen HD and all tv other day and it was not digital...!!!!!

There is a huge missconception that if you buy a state-of-the-art high definition tv that it will have a digital tuner and that is cr@p! The rubbish they sell here don't! But we won't know that till our analog is switched off ...!!!

i wonder about the content, which would be local news and local issues. mmm a local jhb cbd news channel.

Richards Bay getting one too!....spoke to one of the guys "working" there, they will be using PINNACLE STUDIO 10 (baseline consumer editing software aimed at the home video market) in all of their production!!!! So from the outset it will be supa amaturish!:o

Community broadcasting! GREAT!!!!

pool competitions, late night shows (bathroom peepshows en alles) and home grown WWE talent. What more can you ask fo... oh yeah, it's not a live feed from our shebeens :(

Cape Town Television - CTV

I can't believe the technical incompetence of the government regulators for licensing CTV to broadcast on UHF channel 36 or 38. These are the default output for most video (VCR) machines.

Since CTV went on the air with their test signal I get a very bad picture on my TV set when watching my VCR. I am seeing my VCR and CTV at the same time. I have 4 TV sets and 3 VCR machines in the house which I will have to retune. One VCR is so old that it only has a channel 36 output which means that I will have to replace that unit. Fortunately for me, I am technically capable to retune the output channel of my VCR, then retune my TV set to the new channel but how many people have ever had to retune their VCR output channels before?

I surely hope that CTV did not request that specific channel from the regulators to ensure that everyone in Cape Town will be sure to find their signal. It would be very selfish and inconsiderate of them if that was the case. I notice that neither channel 36 or 38 is licensed to any other TV stations because of it's potential for causing interference of this nature.

You must be one of the very few people that still uses a VCR.

The channel won't be broadcasting in digital but I suspect they'll be included on one of the MUXes the day digital kicks off.

And the stuff about it being as bad as Wayne's World- I doubt it since there's a whole lot of professional orgnisations involved in the project including AFDA.

Will have to scan the frequencies tonight. No advertising for this?
