New WA special?

Does anyone know if the connection is locked to your line (ala Afrihost uncapped) or can you use it from any ADSL-enbled line (so long as it's only one at a time)?

Nothing is really free.

1. Very few people play on WA servers so you would be playing with yourself.
2. FreeZone doesn't work so you get charged for data which should have been free. Just read the WA forums and see.

Geez Tanya looking at this and your previous post on the forums you are just a ray of sunshine aren't you. You are one of the rare individuals on this forum who thinks capped is crap and shaped uncapped is crap. Anything you do like that is aimed at the consumer market?

You have the option to lock it to your line for your own security purposes. It is not forced down on you by WA and can therefore be used from any ADSL-enabled line.

Is anyone using this for gaming if so what are your latencies compared to other isps?

I used the 16Gb special last month and had no worries when playing Battlefield BC2. Using HLstats the pings to CSS and COD5 looked good as well. I don't think this service will be any worse. WAGE servers also gave good pings.

I'm playing from Pretoria though, so don't know how that would affect you as I see in in Queenstown.

Local or International? International, no problems, was getting 290ms in LOTRO to european servers, so WoW would probably have similar pings.

Local, dunno, apparently it's highly dependent on whether you're close to Cape Town or not .

My wow pings are around 300-500ms, my line ain't great though.

local pings are under 100ms.

auto topups

@webafrica

The new rate of R15/gig for the top ups, will this be applicable for the auto top ups, I cant imagine why it would not?

Thanks

So they say 1 concurrent connection, but I can still connect with two pcs via the same line using bridged mode?

I think the idea of it is great, but the implementation is typically South African. ie. let's see how we can offer something that doesn't exist. Shady marketing does not appeal.

That counts as one connection. Another connection would be simultaneously using the account on another line.

Good, already signed up. I was just confirming cause I have 3 pcs at home and 1 wireless laptop which all run on different accounts atm.

If you stay close to CPT its fine. If you Stay in JHB and Play on JHB or PTA servers Like iGame or SGS forget it. Ping is like 100ms.

Your connection goes from JBH to CPT to JHB.

Most Account Including IS. JHB to JHB Server.

Webafrica first wants you to go around SA then take you to where you want to be.

They seriously need a IPC link in JHB!

DUnno, I play from PTA on SGS, iGame and WAGE servers and can't honestly see any difference in terms of gameplay latency. Seems to work fine by me. But I might just be a layman who doesn't know any better.

Yea, that setup doesn't affect concurrency if they're all using the same Telkom Line. Concurrency restriction is mainly for people who wants to share the same account with neighbours/family/work [who has their own telkom line] , all connecting at the same time.

Well done and congrats WA! :D

We were all saying we'd be happy with capped international, at local gig prices, only a few months ago, around October/November last year.

We're in the happy zone! ;)

40% or so of our 4mbit's have already gone up to 10mbit, it depends entirely when Telkom upgrades your DSLAM at your Exchange, and if your line can support it though.

Do you have a list of DSLAMs that can handle 10mbps? Alternatively a list of those where you have 10mbps customers already on 10mbps?

It is shaped though...so it might not be full speed for the "important" protocols ;)

I don't know about that but with the 'troubles' of the last few days I had full international access no speed reductions with WA. I only have a 384k line but downloads where going at 42KB/s.

Webafrica has said many times that they do shaping differently. Webafrica said that the shaping really only kicks in when the network is under strain. So I bet you will be able to get full speed on the account with p2p 24/7, since the network is barely loaded cause of the high prices [no offence webafrica just opinion]

Yep, on my 30GB int. account with them I've had no issues. It feels unshaped compared to AH's 'uncapped'. Even WoW pings were sitting around 280ms ... now tell me how that is terrible?

What the hell? I logged into my account and saw I can upgrade my Data 4 (10gb) to Titan 1 (15gb) with R291 saving. As I didn't know what Titan is, came here, read up about it, and now when I went back to actually do it, my Upgrade option is GONE!??
