New WA special?

Abe and James, you are aware of what a forum is aren't you. If not, maybe you should google it. If you don't like my views, tough, I couldn't care less, don't read them. If you actually look through this Forum, there are thousands of posts with people having gripes with Companies.

If you want to go back to WA, by all means, go ahead I couldn't care less. If I have something to say I'll say it. You bunch of clowns sure as heck are not going to tell me what I'm allowed to say. On top of it, you are totally off topic.

Gripe <> Agenda

Web Africa has my attention with this one. For an extra R41, I can't think of any reason I shouldn;t move from Do Broadband Level 2 to Titan 1.

Assuming I wanted to cancel my Do Broadband account tomorrow and sign up for WA Titan 1, how would I go about it?

Well i said i will sign up for the first deal that offer me approx. 30GB for R300 and this is pretty much it. So i'm killing my uncapped next month, and hopefully save R200 in the process :) .

Not that i'm unhappy with uncapped, but i realised my total bill for internet -alone- = R950 [line rental + uncapped] , that is just not fitting my budget, need to bring it down. I can almost pay off a car with all these internet costs!

Until Webafrica gets a IPC link in JHB and Durban I think I will pass. Local latency to JHB is to high. My connection goes to CPT then to JHB. Its double the latency.
I agree Cavedog! Web Africa need to get a IPC link in JHB,my pings are so much worse on Web Africa than on both SAIX and IS.
Please Web Africa ,help us so we can help you :)
How About This WebAfrica?
Same with me. Thank goodness for their trial accounts else I may have bought bandwidth and had to have found out about this little problem the hard way... being a gamer, for me latency is even more important than overall throughput of the line.
I actually brought this up on their forums during the trial, and they made it clear that we wouldn't be seeing this feature any time soon as the additional IPC links costs too much. As far as I know though (i stand to be corrected), that's probably an invalid excuse because the ESR basically comprises of just one hardware radius server which, if configured properly, accommodates all the ISP's authentication & routing at a 'localised' level... I may be wrong, but yeah seeing as mtnns, mweb, and IS all peer in this way, I don't see why it isn't possible for WA to do the same, especially if they pride themselves as a professional gaming network as they do with WAGE. If they only _care_ about the cape town gamers' latency, then they shouldn't expect more than cape town's share of gamers using their accounts.

I'm interested in the Titan Complete 2 package so just for sake of it I gave telkom a call today and apparently the max speed my line can support, according to their system, is 1024kbps. wtf? The lady said they may be able to upgrade it if the line quality is good enough. So I was wondering if anyone here can please shed some light on my line quality if you look at the signal stats below from my router.

Thanks!

Parameters
DSP Firmware Version DMT FwVer: 3.9.4.20_A_TC, HwVer:T14F7_5.0
DMT Status Up
Operational Mode ADSL2+
Upstream 127 kbps
Downstream 384 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream) 11.6 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 21.1 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 13.0 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 21.0 db

Edit: Btw I have no idea how far I am from the exchange...

Funny thing about this whole Telkom telling you it maxes out at 1024: I had the same experience - only in my case, I was on a 384 line. I phoned them and they said, sorry, only 512. Because it just wasn't worth it, I decided against the upgrade.

I then headed to Europe, got stuck there for a few days due to the volcano and returned two weeks later to find my line upgraded to 4096 and my SNR margin dropped to 10.9 db in the interim.

I don't know if your stats will handle an upgrade BUT I think you should check with WebAfrica - back in March, Jonathan Enslin from WebAfrica sent me the following message when I queried the possibility of signing up for their 16Gb with 4Mb line rental special:

The 512Kb/s ADSL line costs R326 per month excluding bandwidth charges

Once we have transferred the line we can try and upgrade it

i had the same issue with them, telkom said my line can only handle up to 512. but i insisted they send a techy out to my exchange. i waited for bout 2 weeks and a bout 5 complaints.

Surprisingly my exchange does support 4mb. there systems is out of date.

so give it a try, force them to upgrade the line for you even tho they say it cant..

;) downloading :pubuntu:p @ 420kB/s now

Check on your router's status page what your line attenuation is and post it here.

EDIT: Here is an online version of the calculator: http://fremnet.net/article/216/adsl-theoretical-speed-calculator

See synapseZA's post - calculator there. You should get 19897Kb/s & you're 1.521km from the exchange according to that.

Just click "order now" on the original link page: http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/titan_dsl_special :p I'd sign up from the 1st, though :D

Nothing is really free.

1. Very few people play on WA servers so you would be playing with yourself.
2. FreeZone doesn't work so you get charged for data which should have been free. Just read the WA forums and see.
Wow you're moaning an ISP. Big surprise there

I can think of many people without internet who are far more deserving of it than you are.

I'm glad WebAfrica is back. Will be going back to them as soon as I can, the 25GB 4-10Mbps package is perfect for me, and its not as expensive as the 4Mbps uncapped from the other providers.

Agree. The FreeZone is a MESS. It eats ALL your Bandwidth then you need to contact support for them to credit you which can take up to 3 days and in the mean while you are capped.....

Thank you lws, Stormer12 and FlatspinZA. Will try and force an upgrade out of them :P

There are a number of players on WAGE, depending on the game. See a few okes on BC2 already.
My Freezone has thus far worked without any hassles. I suspect it is mostly the Steam part where the Freezone picks up issues.

I signed up yesterday. It will only kick in from the 1st of May any ways, so sign up now to avoid delays. I upgraded from the 16GB complete special and all that will happen is my fee for that will be credited and then taken off the new amount for Titan special. I have had no hassles with my line being with WA, just took a while for Telkom to hand it over is all.

I also moved over from the 16g 4 meg special to a Titan complete. Just a bit of advice - check on your client zone; status area that they have done the right one. When I checked they had started my application with Telkom to move my line to WA when in fact they already had my line. Another call to WA and it now looks like it is all correct and that I will simply pay R 100 more each month but have 9 extra gigs.

Have a hassle free move and enjoy the extra gigs :)

I am very much interested in this new offer, can someone comment on what speed to expect on RS please?
