News server related queries

yes... the SAIX sever has retention of 180 days(i think... may be a bit higher) which means if the NZB is older.. it just wont download
Oh ok, now I understand *swears excessively*. One more question. If a file is on lets sat the SAIX server, does that mean it will be on the IS server also and on every single other news server in the world?

Theoretically yes. It is supposed to work that way with the NNTP protocol. Your local server will go fetch the file if it is not locally stored.

But there are real world limitations, disk storage space, broken connections, retention, etc.

Ok thanks. Sorry for all the questions, im really new to these news server things but I really appreciate the fact that there are still people out there that does not mind to help a noob out.

Thanks again everyone

We all started out as noobz ;)

Not me... I tunneled in to the Net in God Mode.

So... does anyone know yet if either of the local news servers work with Screamer or DigiChilli?

I suspect not if they are using Seacom bandwidth? Unless that Seacom bandwidth is fed through the IS backbone. But the IS news server is pretty much useless anyway.

So does all that cheap bandwidth mean you still have to get an international news server?

Ok I still need help it seems. I am trying to download things from alt.binz thats more than 100 days old, some even more than 200 days. I drag the .nzb file into the program and I am connected to SAIX. After a while it says 100% next to the file but it did not download like it did the first file. Its hard for me to explain but hope someone knows what im talking about. I got the zeitgeist nzb from the net, dropped it on alt.binz and this morning it said 100% but nothing in the download folder????? Normally when something downloads you can see the speed but with these nzb's you dont see any speed and I have not changed anything on the setup? When the "downloaded" file says 100% and I click on cleanup, its and its not in the download folder!

Use Grabit rather.

That sounds EXACTLY like a retention problem!

So that means that its not on the server anymore and I wont be able to download those files?

Ja, seriously. I would not try and download anything older than two months on the local servers. They are not very good at finding older files.

Astraweb has a 400 day retention, but it also struggles to find stuff older than 200 days.

I have been doing some nice old stuff on astraweb :)

Hi guys, me again. So I got myself a asgtaweb account yesterday. Will this use international or local cap? Also, is there not a different way of searching for content on the server, almost like you type into a search box for something you are looking for and it gives you all the results? Something similar to P2P type of thing?

1)I hope you got an Astraweb account ;)
2)International
3)I am not 100% sure but NZB Matirx is buy far the best NZB site! Just go for it!

there's also newzleech and bintube (which are both free)

which are both highly inferior!

Only problem I have with NZBMatrix is you only allowed to download 150 NZB's a day :( I am going away on Thursday for 3 weeks and need to rack up my dl's.
