What is the Internet Solutions server like?

I usually use SAIX and I max my 384k line no problems, is IS bad? I have seen people mention that it's not good but they may be on 4mb lines or something like that and be noticing slow speeds on uncached items (same with SAIX though).

Sorry if it's been covered but I don't feel like scanning 139 pages :p, did search the thread but found only an old post from last year. I

Tech, I used it before moving and it would be ok at the beginning of the month but then towards month end it would start spiking from 0 to about 14K. I got fed up with it and made the move.

IS is fine if you're on 384 and don't mind downloading the [-]occasional[/-] frequent par2 file. Lancelot is correct about the end of the month thing though.

Um whats up with http://www.newshost.za.net/ if I try signup I get

1st Jan? Do you need an invite? You know, that's a pretty inconvenient day. Are there a limited number of profiles available or something?

I've never understood the desperation of getting a Newshost invite. Surely you'd just need a little bit of international to get your NZBs off one of many international sites? Get all the NZBs you need before running out of international.

You can't get an NZB for something that doesn't exist yet.

Also, local sites give you an indication of what's cached which is useful when there is more than one version of something. I have a secondary Afrihost account so I always have international- that's not the issue for me.

Kaufies it should have been clear that this is not what I meant. Most people run an international and a local account. This means you can access international NZBs at any time. What I was implying with the lining up of NZBs is that if you don't have international all month, but do for say 20 days, you can ensure you have all you need lined up before you run out. If something new comes out I'm sure most could wait 10 days!

I only have a 384k line and everything comes through at a steady 38K. I don't download during the week as I use my laptop for work. If I downloaded non stop all month I'd have to start downloading crap anyway.

Each person has different needs I suppose but I still don't see why people almost beg for Newshost membership.

Why is that, why only 38 KB/s and not 48KB/s?
38*8= 304Kb/s
48*8=384Kb/s

I'm happy with Astraweb. I also get 38KB/s but also many times it jumps into the forties. But you have to remember there are other things that effect your line. So its not guaranteed. Something about overhead.

I see your points. What news server do you use. I only get those speeds early in the month on cached content. I use SAIX.

I'd use Astraweb but I'm not uncapped:cry::(

I'm not on uncapped either.

Just don't download everything. Got the 180gig prepaid. So I can download when I want without having to make use of $11 every month. That would be so stressful.

Technically you'll never get the full 384k, it works out to about 10% less, it's the same with any line.

Thanks Kaufies and LancelotSA for the IS info.
