I have a problem -> I've grabbed a file that is RARed in 20-odd 15MB RAR files. According to the PAR files there is no damage on the files, BUT according to the SFV the file R00 is corrupt (and the file will not extract in WinRAR or 7Zip, both programs also say that R00 is corrupt).

Now how do I fix this? I've grabbed that part (R00) three times and every time it's the same story, has anyone ever experienced this and if so how did you solve it?

Thanks

I foolishly mentioned in another thread how trouble free my experience with the IS NS was and now I'm getting an alt.binaries.teevee does not exist on this server message with grabbit.

I've tried updating groups.

Any suggestions?

EDIT - "Change active group before downloading article" - removed the tick and it's working now.

Look to see if that file has been reposted onto usenet.

Update your winrar .. helped me a wile ago :)

Will that work even though the SFV says the R00 is incomplete?! I'm grabbing a new version of WinRAR now, I'll give it a shot

EDIT: Yeah that didn't work!

Any par files in that download? Try getting a nzb from another site.

There are PAR files, but according to the PAR files all the RAR files are fine so there is no option to repair!

Look to see if that file has been reposted onto usenet.

Thanks, I checked and it hasn't :(

I'll check if I can't get the file off Rapidshare, WA free 10GB FTW :D

Thanks guys

I said something similar on another thread  ....for the past 2 days the IS NS has been giving me erratic speeds and connections...I'm using Alt.Binz

EDIT: Just confirm...is anyone else having issues downloading from the IS NS today? I'm running a IS 30Gig local (Web Africa) account and struggling to download cached content.

Let's take the news servers as part of a Big company providing the news server as part of a "bundled service" with x amount of gb's usage per month. Be this local ot international bandwith as it may.

Now this big company is intent on providing a service as the more people use their services the more profits they can shoe to the investors and shareholders making them happy shareholders and investors. Now at some point these investors and shareholders starts to get uneasy with the prospects of new companies entering the field which will at some point in future reduce the current profits.

Now these investors and shareholders are screaming at the big company to "protect" their investment. Quick way for this to happen is to lower overheads. In this case to reduce the amount of overheads the big company decides to keep the amount of bundles sold but to reduce the amount paid for usage within the monthly bundles. Since a big monopoly (which also have investors and shareholders) keep prices high, the only way is for the company to reduce the amount of usage in the bundles.

They find a brilliant way which is called "uncached content" by reducing available time of "cached" content available on the news servers it now takes longer to utelise bundles therefore reducing the amount used within bundles.

Now this creates smiles on the faces of investors and shareholders again while the users stay somewhat content as they still recive the bundle and they still want the content although it is now a "reduced" service.

have you tried quickpar... it is the best way to fix the rars.

download the par(2) files, open quickpar, click "open", select the par files and then it should work everything out.

I just purchased the uncapped adsl account from axxess

http://www.axxess.co.za/uncapped.php

and I was wondering about the news server address. I tried the SAIX one, the IS one and the axxess one that I found on this thread, but none of them work. Does axxess' news server only come with the local cap package, or should I be looking for some paid news servers?

I grabbed the PAR file and a PAR2 file with 4 recovery blocks already but because the PAR files say that R00 is fine I can't repair it.

I still cannot understand how the PARs can say all is fine when the SFV says otherwise and nothing can extract it?! Perhaps the RARs somehow got corrupted before the poster even created the PAR files, they might explain part of it but would be highly unlikely...

It's fine, the file I was trying to get is on RapidShare :)

My isp has blocked ports and now I cannot use Grabit to even download from a server. My isp has even blocked peer 2 peer applications.

Is there anyway of using grabit with my current isp. I have no access to my router and how can i use grabit without crashing the network of my isp.
