No SSH on Afrihost Hosting?

Does Afrihost really not have SSH access for developers who host with them?

I'd like to set up version control...not FTP every file change.

Has anyone got around this before?

I believe it really does not - urks me every time I think about it.
As for workarounds, not entirely sure.

Sjoe that's pretty crazy. I suppose that's why they're not using "virtual private server" or similar language anywhere in the text on their product pages.

Is it shared hosting? They hold ssh details to config/maintain servers. If you rent a VPS you should get ssh.

Rent a VPS from elitehost for local. Or DigitalOcean for international

Afrihost is very restrictive, unfortunately. EliteHost does a much better job at everything, and has much more to offer.

As others have said - get a VPS type package from someone (AH or whoever) and you'll be golden.

It depends on the type of hosting you have, but we definitely allow SSH access. For shared hosting, you can request "shelled" SSH access. For dedicated hosting, that should be by default (depending on the OS).

Switch over to Hostking. They let you SSH into their shared hosting servers and have git installed already.
