No 'theatrics' for Mbeki

I was correcting "complete lack of action" and I think I have archived that.
Yep. It's been archived indeed. T-Bone is the most useless president in Africa. It took him nearly two full terms to admit that crime is a problem. Countless promises, hundreds of wonderful speeches and millions of air miles later we're just about as ****ed now as before he started. Yeah - aweseome "strong" president. Zuma was fired because of the immense outcry both locally but more importantly internationally. Jacob Zuma made international headlines and a lot of questions were being asked what Mbeki will do. As it is he took quite some time to sack the dumbass anyway. So he couldn't even get that right, even though it was glaringly obvious what had to be done.

Good on you, a grammatical nitpick and then dodge the real issue. You must be so proud.

Of cause I am proud. If you search dlk001 along with "Nqakula" or "Lekota", you will find some comments to suggest that you might be wrong. Anyway, that doesn't matter, I guess. They are posts of the past and we need to move forward into the future.

Those who say Mbeki has done nothing, who is their preferred alternative president to Mbeki ????

Helen Zille seems to be doing quite well in CT. From the ANC side I don't think Tito Mboweni or Cyril Ramaphosa would be bad either.

I just don't think South Africa have a politician who can appeals both to the black majority and white minority and the 3 you have mentioned don't. And this tells me black and white South Africans have different priorities in this country !!
Fair point?

I presume you mean those 3 don't appeal to the black majority then? I could understand why Helen Zille wouldn't but what about the other 2?

For a politician to appeal to the masses they must not lose touch with the people and those 2 sadly have lost it. Why do you think Mbeki before elections all of sudden focuses on road tours to the townships and rural areas??? Even though we all know it's more of a symbolic gesture and old school type of politics but somehow it seems to work!

That's the angle our 'beloved' Zuma plays !!!

No one will ever agree - that's like saying the sky is blue in the day when the clouds are gone. Some scientists will disagree. There is no one size fits all.

The problem is that the ANC only cares when election time comes around, then there's millions of promises (and this is a Political problem in every political society in the world). The rest of the time, they couldn't care less:

Thabo Mbeki had to be placed under mammoth pressure to admit that crime was a problem. As little as 2 weeks earlier he defiantly denied that crime is affecting our people on an outrageous scale in an SABC interview. Thabo Mbeki spent a little over 5 months in real calendar days in South Africa last year. That's shocking. Every other head of state spends the bulk of their time in their country, but not "The Philosopher" Thabo. Even George W Bush does not jet around as often as Thabo Mbeki - and he's the most powerful man in the world.

Thabo, instead, leaves one of the most incompetent cabinets in the world pretty much alone and completely free to run and do as they please mostly unaudited. Charles Nqakula (who incidentally joined his wife and stole around 300 000 Rand from the SA tax payer) comes out and tells the people of this country (a country where we have the highest Rape rate in the world, a murder rate 800 % the world average, and the only country in the world where ATM bombings has occurred and become an official subsection of crime reporting) who complain about crime to leave if they want to complain - all this while he enjoys VIP protection from the SAPS protection unit, in addition to a private security firm also giving him free protection.

Manto Tshabala Msimang has been sidelined by many people in her very own department (including her deputy) because Manto cannot grasp that AIDS is killing more people in South Africa than anywhere else in the world. This same woman made South Africa a laughing stock at a World AIDS conference by putting vegetables on an AIDS prevention display. Additionally, her department apparently dreads when she speaks in public because of her sporadic and often odd behaviour.

The Home Affairs department is in such disarray that foreigners can acquire a legitimate Identity document by paying a few hundred Rand and wait a few weeks, yet real genuine South African born citizens have to wait up to 3 years to get their documents. The minister of Home Affairs, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has admitted that she doesn't know what is going on in her department, yet holds on to her job.

The communications minister, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, has been seen sleeping in Parliament during a telecommunications session. She has failed on every front to reign in the Telecoms Fixed line monpoly and has attempted (somewhat successfully) to remove the independence of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa. Despite Thabo Mbeki's promises for liberation in Telecoms, Matsepe-Casaburri has fought tooth and nail to retard any progress in that regard to the point of standstill.

The minister of Public Enterprises, Alec Erwin lied to the entire country about sabotage at the Eskom Nuclear Power plant and then subsequently lied about even lying in the first place. Mr Erwin is also attempting to set up a new government monopoly that will own all fixed-line communications infrastructure in the country. In the mean time, Mr Erwin has said we are going to build a new Nuclear Power facility - but he refuses to say where or when.

Our defense minister, who is supposed to be in charge of our military affairs (and I suppose border control though everyone knows that's a sieve designed to let people in rather than keep them out), lashes out at Ex Patriots for voicing their reasons for leaving. A man who has nothing to do with foreigners spends his entire allotted time in parliament to slam people who have left the country because of spiraling violent crime?

The ministry of finance, however, functions like an exquisitely well oiled machine. Why is it that the number one performing department in government is the one that takes our money?

That is not a competent government. It is an entirely and completely incompetent government - and it has nothing to do with race - but everything to do with zero accountability. We need to have a government where the ministers are not politicians, but top, top experts in their relative fields. And we don't need a president - we've proven that our esteemed cabinet ministers can screw up whether he's here or not.

The people in the rural areas and township believe this is a competent government, not that it doesn't have problems, that is why the vote for it ALL the time! You seem to forget the government has dealt with the BREAD and BUTTER issues which affect those people daily.

Basically most of the things the affluent people take for granted are the things the masses appreciate. You may ask what these basic services are ... (health care in rural areas, access to education for children, access to basic grants like pension for old people and so on)

The masses believe the government is helping them improve their livelihoods and for them the involvement of beaurocrats in corrupt activities is a small price to pay compared to what they believe they have gained!

I disagree, just speak to your average black person on the street and see what they have to say. I am talking about the ones who live in the "locations", my domestic has been with the family for 30 yrs and she thinks this gvt is full of **** as they still do not have running water.

so one domestic worker makes a sample for the whole country and have you been to where she stays to see that yourself?

The problem is most people the world over, including SA, worry more about politician's theatrics and publicity stunts than their actual competence or skills.

I think the average black person on these forums has family, relatives and friends who live in the locations. One has disagreed with you and I'm the next.
