Nokia N97 from Vodacom

Please help. I've spent hours looking for this online and am about to set my phone alight out of pure frustration.

All I'm trying to do is send a photo to an email address that is saved in my contacts. But the phone keeps telling me 'No phone number defined for Jason MMS'. I have done this on all my nokia phones before but this is the first time it won't insert the email address in the TO field on the MMS. What is CRAZY is that if I type in the email address manually into the TO field, then I can do it. But I can't do it if I choose a saved contact with just an email address and no other info. I mean, what's going on here? This phone is supposed to be the future of handset technology but I can't send a basic photo via MMS to an email address!

Haha - MTN released v12 firmware update yesterday... Go vodacom go! To Hell!!!

Haha - MTN released v12 firmware update yesterday... Go vodacom go! To Hell!!!

Dammit, after sending my phone back as an "out of box failure" and getting a new phone with the same software back, which did somehow fix some issues BUT NOT ALL, now what do I do?

I HATE VODACOM for $%@#%%@# up my phone! You're right, DAMN THEM TO HELLLLLLLLLL!

My current Vodacom Talk 500s package contract expired on 28 May and I was holding out to see what would happen with the new Vodacom packages and N97 phones. I was told emphatically on no fewer than 5 occasions, including today, that Vodacom were NOT offering Nokia N97's for upgrades but only on NEW contracts for a PAY-IN of R2 469-00 on a Talk 500s (R800-00 pm plus) package. I then told them that MTN were offering a FREE Nokia N97 on their Anytime 350 package for R489-00 pm to which they responded ... sorry, can't help ... to which I responded ... sorry, I'm porting to MTN ... just did ... and Vodacom have now lost my business.

Hey guys,
I've been drooling over this offer by MTN for the last 2 months and only have one more month till I qualify for my upgrade.
N97, NO cash buy in, Anytime 350 for only R489,00/m. Whats there to think about?
You made a good move Videoman.

Any word about new firmware for the Voda branded N97's?

OR

Has anyone successfully debranded their handsets... any help would be appreciated!

Yep....Successfully debranded an MTN N97, Its now on V12 and working SOOOOOO much better than V10

Did you debrand a Vodacom N97 to a MTN product code and its working? (or did you debrand a MTN unit?)

I'm at the point were i want to debrand my Vodacom unit... cant stand this crap any longer....

No...it was an Corporate MTN phone that had an odd product code. I think the corp supplier might have been using the suppling these phones to Vodacom and MTN....just speculation.

I have received 2 N97's.....one on a generic MTN product code and the other on this Corporate one. I dont know how anyone can still be on V10 (ITS SO DAMN FRUSTRATING).

I have used NSS to chage the Corporate phones product code and now both phones are on V12. So much more usable and stable. I just discovered the animated menus (ok its basic but its cool) and very usable.

Hmm, the question remains, is there anything other than the vodafone branding on the vodacom unit that would cause the phone to be unstable on the vodacom network....

Has anyone else debranded a vodacom unit and upgraded to V12?

any instructions on debranding? Which programs to use, which MTN product code, etc?

Tnx in advance!

Changing the product code is reversable as far as I know....when you change the code back Nokia Updater gives you an option to restore the sofware to the one recommended by your manufacturer (iE v10)
On MTN.... My product code is 0576559

bump... cant have this thread disappear, otherwise we'll never find Braamm :)
