Nokia N97 from Vodacom

No i dont believe so because the product code is ultimately affiliated with Vodafone. Use the Euro 1 or 2 product code. It will allow you to obtain the latest firmware updates. I have noticed that the vodafone branding does tend to limit the performance of the phone (in essence, lose it as quickly as possible) . Did it with the N95 8GB and have had joy ever since.

N97 - Porting to MTN

Am interested to hear from anyone else who is trying to port their number from Vodacom to MTN. It's been 2 weeks now and Vodacom are dragging their heels to release my number to port over to MTN ... anyway this is what my local MTN SP guy says. Has anyone else had similar porting delays or is this normal. Am doing this purely to get Nokia N97 on a 350 Anytime contract with no pay in ... something Vodacom cannot do.

I agree fully with braamm, where the *&^&^%%$$#&^#&^%&# hell is the DAMN FIRMWARE UPDATE!!! ocleroux, can you not escalate this to Vodacom, I mean come on, the entire world already ha V11 of this firmware, for goodness sake even goshdarn MTN has the new FW!
 
Btw Videoman, you can get the N97 on Vodacom contract, you'll have to add an amount to your usual monthly bill for the 24 months. Just ask the consultant at Vodacom.

Any idea how much and does it compare favourably with the MTN offer to warrant a port over. I'm interested to hear from anyone in a similar position. Looking at the MTN 350 Anytime contract ... heard Vodacon now also do a Talk 350s package ... big question is side by side, how do they compare.

So, I logged a call with Vodacom, they sent me to a Vodacare as they could aparently upgrade the software... So, off I went .... just to find out that they do NOT have v11 available!!!
I called Nokia SA, the friendly lady informed me that they "sometimes" release bug fixes in current, already released versions, after the fact but keep the version number the same. So all I should do is simply reinstall the firmware even though it states v10.

I probably dont have to ask, but guess what? IT STILL DOESNT WORK!

I'm sending my phone back under the 7 day "factory fault" clause. !@%!#@$% That, I'm tired of this BS service.... Both Nokia and Vodacom are pathetic regarding this issue.

When the replace it, I'm switching it on instore, if the software is version 10 on the device, im sending it back again... till they have a pile of "used" N97's.... maybe some manager may start to notice that vodacom or nokia has a heap of broken phones and they may want to start looking at the issue....

Can't understand why Vodacom can't take 5 mintes to put up some feedback regarding the N97 firmware on the Vodacom4me website?

Simple - tell us why it was not released, will it be released and if so, when is the estimated release date?

I thought the service would improve after Telkom sold their share in the company, but it seems it is still all about advertising and sponsorships and very little effort when it comes to customer service.

Thanks ... had a look at that. Made my decision on side by side comparisons. Going with MTN for price, MTN have a V11 FW update ... amongst other things. Only thing, will have to wait till month end as my contract with Vodacom only expires then, even though I was eligible for a VC upgrade in May... grrrr !!!
 
Never buy any branded phone from vodacom. Ive learnt the hard way also.
 
Got a reply from Vodacom today regarding the N97 firmware. "The "recommended" version is 10.0.012", yet they are "expecting" the new upgrade to be available for testing in 2 to 3 weeks time".

Spot on Vodacom! Testing the firmware that has been available worldwide for almost a month now to ensure the "best experience". lol... ;)

These guys are so far removed from reality it baffles the mind...
 
Has anyone yet changed the product code?

I have found a nice guide to do so, but ive read that certain codes will brick the phone and i dont want to find out which ones those are. So if anyone has successfully changed the product code so they can get the firmware updates please will you tell us which code you changed it to..

5800 can take up to 32GB MicroSD. Built in slows down the Cellphone when filled.
The Camera has 1.8MP more.
The processor is EXACTLY the same with the V3 fireware update
There is a front camera.
Qwert keyboard in the touch screen.

Fail.
 
are the vodacom 5800's also branded?
For that matter, are all the phones branded from Voda?
 
I have another question to all the vodacom users, did you try an over the air update or via nokia pc suite?
