Nokia N97 from Vodacom

Autopage and local CellC shop also have stock. It seems it is only the Vodashops that are waiting for stock.

Hi guys,

This is my first post, been lurking for a while on the forum. I just got a call from MTN in Menlyn, my N97 is there waiting for me. Got a great deal as well. I'm paying R525pm on an Anytime 500 with no pay in
Damn that is a very sweet deal indeed!!!!

Just phoned MTNSP - they say it has not been released in the country yet....

@ safranna ... cool ... could you perhaps post back when you receive your phone ... am interested to hear as I've just phoned them and they could't give me a deal at this stage ... something about waiting till Monday when the specials list comes out ... dunno?

I was at the store about a month ago and asked the people when they were expecting the N97. They told me that it would be in August. I put my name on the list, I was the first one, and told them that I want an excellent deal. Then yasterday he phoned me and said they have my phone. Asked what package I would like to upgrade to I told him the Anytime 500 and he did the calcs and got me the great deal. I'm going through later today to collect my N97

You sure about that pricing? Hope they're not mistaking it for the "N79". Anyway, if MTN can offer it at that price, it will be cool. Hope Vodacom can also work out a deal similar to that.

I'm buying my N97 cash... but can't decide on which colour to get. White or Black? I currently have a white/silver N82, the black N82 looks much nicer and I wish I waited for that one instead.

So now I need opinions.. black or white? Can anyone comment on smudging issues etc?

Apparently the letters on the keys are more visible on the white one.

I have been using my Nokia N97 since early June. Awesome phone!!! As long as you update the firmware to v11 you will be fine. I think most of the stock of the N97 will be arriving this month, so go get it!! Definately worth it. The UI is a bit dated, a refreshed UI is long overdue. But heard rumours about Symbian 2? Anyone has information on this?

How you finding the touch screen? I played on a demo model in london, but i struggled to use it.

I own a iPhone 3G as well so the touch screen on the N97 is not great at all at first. I got frustrated using it with my thumb, only because the iPhone is so easy to use. But eventually you get used to it. Just add a little more pressure and you will get the hang of it. This is due to a resistive screen used on the N97 which is stylus friendly as opposed to a capacitive screen used on the iPhone which is thumb friendly :) The N97 is the kind of phone that grows on you:D. Just do me a favour, if you getting a N97 do not play with a iPhone! In other hardware departments the N97 beats the iPhone 3G hands down.:p

This looks good, "Nokia N97 On MTN Anytime 200 @r427.50pm X 24" but none of them make mention of any pay in, is there no pay in?

There's no upfront pay-in, but you're paying R227.50 per month extra for the phone. It works out to R5460 over 24 months.

Seems CellC has the lowest contract payins on this phone according to the Autopage pricelists that came out today: http://www.autopage.co.za/consumer/specialoffers/upgrades

R2212 on the Active Chat 220 @R399 p/m. Still not listed on the latest Vodacomsp pricelist. Listed with a R2896 payin on MTN 500 (Safranna is extremely lucky with that deal or is getting a N79 ;)).

Hi guys,

Just some feedback. Went to MTN Menlyn yesterday to get the phone. They brought it out to me. And as I took it in my hands to have a look the store manager nearly had a heart attack. He took the box and phone and gave the salesman a piece of his mind. He then explained to me that all MTN stores have received their N97's but they are not allowed to sell them untill Monday when the new specials are out. He told me that the promotion price should be either R619pm or R629pm on Anytime 500. THe clerk that phoned gave me the price of the N79 as you guys mentioned.

Obviously I wasn't happy about this and made quite a scene. Eventually the manager made me a deal where he is going to courier the phone, for free, to me next week on Anytime 500 for the basic R509 pm and he is going to wave the pay-in amount. So I'm basically just going to be paying for the contract and not the phone. He also refunded my petrol for driving al the way there for nothing.

He was quite helpful. I was dissapointed I didn't get the phone, but I got a better deal instead.

An interesting fact I forgot to mention, Nokia SA is only launching the phone in August. They didn't anticipate it arriving at our shores so fast but it will still be available before then and will be supported and backed up by them. I'm getting mine next week so can't wait.
