Notebook for R22-25K

But then you could get it next week, I work out that it would land at around R19,500 for the VPCZ137GX/B model.

I agree. Rather go for the best that settle for someting else because you would have to wait. That's if you don't go for the Mac which is of course the absolute best!

The shipping date given on the Sonystyle USA website is 05 November. Add 1-2 weeks shipping onto that and I am on the same delivery as the "local" VAIO supplied by Sony SA. I expect problems with the internaitonal warranty, I was told Rectron would not repair the machine on an international warranty and it would have to be shipped back to the USA. Not so sure but havent gone and interrogated them on the topic yet.

If its going to be the VAIO I might as well then just wait and get what I wanted from the beginning. Although the Macbook Pro looks damn good too, just the white that appears a little "girlish"...

nah, lots of sony z available and out now, you could have one here by wednesday, but whatever, its your toy and its a lot of money. yeh rectron are full of *

You are right, there are a few Z-series models to choose from in SA, but nowhere near the range offered in the USA and UK. Infact, you can custom-spec your own VAIO with just about every sub-component, whereas Sony SA does the picking for you.

The Z-series currently available in SA is the "previous" range I am told by Sony SA's VAIO customer representative, and the new range (Z137 and Z139) would only ship in a few days. The Z135 is already available on the shelves but does not have an optical drive, embedded 3G and has a spinning HDD instead of the SSD's offered in the Z137 and Z139. I have the spec sheets from Sony SA incase anyone is interested.

I have seen the comment of buying overseas a few times, now doing it via a freight forwarder would cost me quite a bit. Does anyone here know of a way to get a VAIO in from the USA with a less costly yet reliable means?
