Nutribullet

Been offered one for a Xmas present, do I say yes or know. I'm not fond of white elephants?

"The original nutrient extractor" :crylaugh:

I see David Wolfe when I read about this, and I throw up a little in my mouth.

These keep going up in price. It was 2k for the 12 piece 600w about 4 months ago. Now it's 1.8k for the 8 piece 600w.
In march it will be 2.2k for 3 piece 600w.
The 900w is not necessary as the 600w has no probs dicing anything.

An extra cup, extra extractor blade (different shape), extra lid and extra ring handle that can screw on to any of the cups.

Isn't the second blade a mill blade for coffee beans, nuts, etc.?

Bought this kit last year sometime for R1400~R1600 from boardmans. Was shocked to see it at takealot for R2300 a while ago

How much extra is the 12 piece set over the 8?

I paid R1,999 for it a few months ago with some free coconut water from Dischem.

You're probably right, I haven't used the second blade at all, probably still sitting in the box.

Wife bought me one for birthday, so far so good. Haven't read the recipe book yet so just winging it with whatever is in the fridge with spinach leaves.

Say "No, rather get me a Nutri Ninja (1000W), model BL480." (They have an SA website, just google).

But, ja, these high-powered blenders are amazing for making smoothies.

I dunno. Wish I had not read this thread. 2k on a blender? ..not sure I can stop myself though..

There's a Platinum Blender from Hyper Checkers that costs about R199 that can easily make you your smoothies and milkshakes under a minute and it comes with 2 750ml bottle type jugs. It's obviously not as fancy as the OP's one but it does it's job.

We found something similar - nutribullet was a bit too expensive

You won't be sorry.

I make pinacoladas in this thing: fresh pineapple, freeze-dried coconut powder (buy at Asian supermarkets; not dessicated coconut), rum, ice, honey/ sugar syrup. On its high-speed blend, shizz comes out so smooth you might as well be in Cuba.

The 'old' blenders with the big glass jugs (traditionally called "liquidizers") are a drag to clean, heavy, and they suck up space. Plus, their motors struggle with large quantities or big chunks. Typically, during blending, the blended bits will accumulate around the blades and the rest of the fruit chunks sit atop that, safely away from the blade. You then need to stop, loosen the shizz, return, blend, stop, loosen shizz, etc.

The Nutri Ninja has a pulsing action at two intervals during it's blending cycle, so you don't need to stop, open, loosen stuff. It blends a while, comes to a stop for a second, then pulses the load upwards as it starts spinning again. It is really convenient.

Only problem is, you can't use it dry - so you can't use it to make bread crumbs from stale, dry bread.
