Only if it can be proven that they are selling it to ODM at a different price than they would to SABC etc, otherwise free market for their own produced content I think.

But they have a monopoly on sport in the country at the moment which can hamper competition in the market

Can ODM not take Multichoice to the competition commision if they don't want to ditribute SS content at a fair price?

Well they can just refuse to sell it to them for resale. Claim they not in that business.

In all fairness, it's not their fault that the SABC fail at everything they do (including sport).

From Fin24 today -

I'm assuming they mean buying older stuff from the studios, not necessarily from Multichoice? In other words somewhere age-wise between M-Net and SABC/E-TV.

Quite possibly. But does anyone else think it stupid in this day and age of digital TV that we still have things like late-post content?

That I think can be taken to the competition commitee for the boards of the various sport not allowing enough coverage ie: SAFA and SARU not the broadcaster themselves.

actually, any problems with this particular industry are still ICASA and the DoC's fault. Don't blame the monopoly, they are in it for the business and to make money for the shareholders.

i dont watch sport, so this sounds perfect to me!

wow their most expensive is half the price of monochoice? well well, things are gonna get real messy soon!
w0rd.

Same here. This is good news!

Yes, but to be more affordable it will be necessary. If the strategy is to convert SABC viewers to pay-tv it might work. I don't think they will be able to secure many DSTV viewers - but it also doesn't seem to be the plan.

But the relationship between SS and SAFA/SARU for instance has been mutually beneficial. And let's face it, SS does a great job. Won't be easy to crack that nut.

My prediction: They will go live in the third quarter of this year with mediocre content (no DSTV content) at around R400 subs monthly. They will be plagued with technical problems well into 2011.

+1

Sounds nice but I will wait until there is a PVR decoder available. I can't imagine watching tv without one. PVR is what makes DSTV 'worth' it in my opinion. We will see what channels ODM offers. Alternatively we could switch service providers every few months seeing as how everyone likes to run repeats. Hopefully this way we can be entertained all year round :D

The only content ODM will buy from Multichoice is SS and will delay the broadcasting it.
The rest can be acquired elsewhere.
Since I'm not a sports fan, Multichoice can keep it in my opinion.

A lot of people are going to jump the Monochoice ship.

The house where I stay already have a Dish and DSTV decoder. I wonder if you can connect a second ODM decoder to that? If the channel selection is nice then I will definately consider getting me one of these ODM babies :-)

You have to reposition the satelite...

This is looking very nice. I wonder how long until No-choice give us a price cut and an HD-PVR that actually works properly?

As much as I would love to see MC's prices drop, I just do not see that they can. They have bought a lot of top name channels and programming. Sport alone cost them a small fortune. But we'll see.

Movies, Series, Documentary, Children, Music, Religion, News, Sport and Local Content

Nice variety. Hope there is a decent sci-fi channel? Hope for the best, I do. ;)

But if I take out a package with them, I have to have PVR. I am so used to recording and watching when I want to, it would be difficult to backward in this regard. :(

I can not believe this poll................... I always thought that I am the only one that is not sport crazy.

"The key difference will be that ODM will offer its subscribers more choice at an affordable price. Real choice in the sense that subscribers will be offered the flexibility to tailor-make their Pay TV offering so that it is uniquely relevant to each viewer at a price that suits each individual’s pockets. Potential subscribers will be informed nearer to ODM’s launch date of the exact details of the various offerings and content through advertising and publicity in the major publications."

um, I think you mean reposition the Dish.

Repositioning the satellite would require considerable knowledge of rocket science, aerodynamics and spatial orbital geometry. Not to mention a truck load of cash.

i can't imagine there is much sport content that SS have exclusive rights for.
