Where would the average South African have been seeing these relatively new and quality series or shows? Frankly anyone who has been watching SABC et al can't be all that choosy. Maybe there are people who would like to see Relic Hunter again or didn't see it the first time round. If nothing else you can now watch it without interruption. I've been pleasantly surprised on this front and I hope it stays that way.I am also a bit worried that they may be under estimating the sophistication of the South African TV viewer. Regardless of LSM level, South Africans are generally used to watching shows that are quality-ish and relatively new.
I feel that the Fox channels are totally inadequate and are missing their mark. They do not come up to standard and are basically a mash of shows. No real thought or understanding of what it is the SA viewer really wants has gone into compiling these channels. Fox Entertainment is too muddled and the promise of Fox FX looks set to disappoint. It is definitely NOT Fox FX that is broadcast in the UK. As for Silver and Showtime, they are shockingly weak in their offering. Their movies are of a very low grade. They are seriously underestimating the SA viewer. Bsically insulting. They have the Most work to do to get their act together.
I do believe that for a start, TopTV has done a fantastic job. They will have to look very hard and deep very soon at their program offering if they want to grow and keep viewers. They will definitely have to approach FOX and get them to realise that their channels need LOTS of work to be attractive to the choosy SA viewer.
It is all about quality. Regardless of the age of the tv series or movie, it must be palatable. There is some good stuff I have never seen like Underbelly coming up that I will watch, but rehashing old SABC shows like relic hunter for pay tv subscribers is presumptuous. Please TopTv do not insult us. No more old SABC shows.
Would one be able to go to the TopTV Head Office to save a phone call or 3 I wonder?Ok where the hell do i start like every1 else yes they starting out so the benefit of the doubt is TopTV's with not so up to date content. But 1stly lets start with the initial launch which was at the end of the month which coincided with a winter rush for a a Makro lcd tv frenzy. They could have sold much more but as makro pointed out they didn't have any info as to installation procedures so had to hold back decoder sales. They didn't bother havin a live link set up in makro as for potential customers to actually see what on offer. So where marketing is concerned it is appalling think about it with makro havin a feeding frenzy on low priced lcd tv's im sure ppl would have taken decoders as well and being mnth end go figure.
Now for my personal Top**** i bought my Top**** decoder 10th May phoned the call centre the 12th, had to phone thrice before i didn't get an engage tone. I did eventually get through after 25 plus min's i went through the process with call centre agent. Got sms stating various installers to contact which i did. Installer was quite good said could only accomodate me on the 13 May, they however phoned me the 12th to notify me they can do it the 12th
Well well installer came did a spendid job hooking drilling wiring etc etc, I asked about activation which is sms activated like was told by call centre and salesman at Makro and was warned it could take 30min to about hence about 2hrs max.
So it is exactly 24hrs still NO, NADA, ZILCH, ZERO, VOKOL Top**** showing on my tv funny when i woke up i phoned the call centre but at 8H02 the call centre gave off and engaged tone phoned at 9h10 still engaged ph at 9H40 still engage hence this is a call centre, at 10H10 finally got through but was on hold for 20 odd mins eventually gave up. Phoned at 13H40 engaged tone again at 14H03 still engaged at 14H40 u got it.
Gave up phoned at 15H40 was waiting for 22min and was eventually prompted to leave a message which i am hoping will be returned in this century still. When i tried at 17H10,17H20,17H27,17H45 it was back on the engaged tone.
So i guess i bought into having myself a nice dish, decoder and a free 20mtr cabling all as a conversation piece for those inquisitive friends wanting to know whether i got Top**** or Dstv
My Experience: I must admit one thing about TOP TV, I bought the unit the week the south african frenzy was rife, and expected the calll centre agents to busy. The pick n pay in northgate gave me the decoder and the next day I called the call center. Ring Ring, and i get the auto voice prompts(coz the whole of SA was foning in), I was surprised to find that they even gave you the option to leave your number and they get back to you, so i did just that... Not expecting much, i was surprised on a sunday evening to find that an agent foned me at 5pm... now that is dedication, she sorted out all my queries and answered all my questions. She smsed me three installers details close to my area within 10 mins of her call, and being a sunday evening i was impressed, but never called them. Again surprisingly the next morning The installers called me to make an appointment to fit in my dish and cabling. This is impressive.
They called before coming to my place(unlike telkom that just pitch up), asked for permission to enter and do the installation, even asked me how i wanted my cable tacked to the wall, tested everything and were done in under 30mins.
The shows are great, similar shows as seen on DSTV like mythbusters... etc. In my opinion they are super better than DSTV, heir support and service is much better, nevermind some of the shows are crappy, but their good nature and service gains my support over DSTV Ripoffs anyday. I am certain with time they will be getting better shows and take over the market. I am not a sports fan so thanx to that i dont need DSTV and this is perfect.
Makes u wonder if there are some alteriour motives?
