ODM TopTV Review

MMM Ill let you guys help them sourt out the glitches and jump on board when you're done with that :)

Nicely written article :) The only one thing that hit me about the writing: "Lo an behold", not "Low and behold" :)

I remember them mentioning that the shows would be slightly older than you'd expect from DSTV, but newer than what the SABC would normally have. This has something to do with series' being cheaper to show as time goes by.

I'm sure the scheduling will get sorted once they've been on the air for a month or two, staff are probably still getting up to speed and some of the procedure probably aren't nailed down yet.

Interesting to hear they play advertisements on unavailable channels - but since the writer has the top package, why does he have channels that aren't available?

The channels are avaiable to the viewer to view but the content isn't active yet.

honestly its only half the price of DSTV and it sounds like Cr@p. sorry guys but i dont see this as competition!

Sounds like garbage to me. 249 a month could be uncapped 384/512 and you can get the latest series.

249 for what? some good music channels? Old series and old movies?

rpm,

Recruit this guy as a part time writer. That is the Article quality we expect of Mybroadband news tbh. Very Very Very well done Vaughan

It is nice to finally have a review of TOP-TV, I am sure not all the members here want to be guinea pigs as the writer obviously is. Only question I have though as I also have TOP-TV, does your signal quality look cr@p in bad weather as mine does? Is TOP-TV going to bring out a TV guide, although it would help if the guide was correct.

Remember they need to have some form of income first before they go ahead and bid on content. I expected a slow start and was eager to get going since they are running FOX. Then realised it's not the FOX channel per se. Thus I declined it. But appart from that I'll sign-up the moment they have the numbers to actually start pushing funds into new content and Sports. Till then I'll just stick with DSTV. I really hope allot of the none DSTV subscribers sign up for this so that they can start becoming competition for MC and then start forcing MC subscribers to jump ship. Now that I would assume is the aim of TTV currently and they are not financially strong enough to be any competition for MC. They would like to pick up the bottom end of the market and increase as their numbers grow.

Don't rush a good thing, give it time.....

Hehe, i'am paying R148/month for Select 2 and that's worse than crap!

Well good for them apparently the Installer says I need an 80CM dish that is too big for my balcony
So if anyone is interested I have a Brand new Top TV Decoder in the Western Cape Area

So if you want drop me a Prive Mail...

Tonight we had some semi heavy rain in brackenfell area and I lost TopTV reception for some 20 odd minutes. When I say lost I mean no picture with the odd second or 2 coming through every 5 minutes or so. Apparently someone close by also lost reception on DSTV, but not for nearly the same length of time. This is probably why 80cm dishes are a requirement, but even still I lost reception.

I received a proper installation from SATS R US, so I will monitor it and see what my options are.

As for content it is already worth the R249 compared to DSTV compact at just R20 less. If this is the start, I am excited to see what will be on offer by year end.

I dont care if the series are a little older- I havent seen most of them anyway- so its cool to start at the beginning.

I'll get it once it has better channels than DSTV, but half the price of DSTV. I'll go for what ever is the best, and not for what ever is cheapest. When topTV offers better shows and sport than DSTV, I'll change over in a second.

Indeed it is, they corrected it since I made that post. Now I look like the one at fault!

My dad is one of the people who might be interested in this.

He's currently got the weird R20 service from DSTV so that he doesn't have to bother with RF antennas to get good terrestrial signal. That gives him all the basic public television for free. R80 more would get him significantly more content already.

Its not always about the best and the cheapest you have to remember this is South Africa, "K A K en betaal is die wet van Transvaal" has and always be the motto of this country and always will be, my way of looking at this is that I canceled DSTV cause it was too expensive and now we would have a choice at least of something to watch even if its crap its at least okay(English) crap.
