Official Afrihost Q&A Thread

Not sure your logic cap is on tonight lance. It is like going to an all you can eat place paying and you get told you can only have one plate. Suck them in and then screw them over :D

No actually it is like going to an eat as much as you can place and they bring the subsequent plates of food at a slower and slower speed, or replenish the pizzas at a slower rate. Also a bit like them not putting out the most expensive pizzas but only the cheapies on eat as much as you like night.... oh wait, that analogy is now sounding EXACTLY like another service!

Where is that logic cap?

Well pointless chatting further here as you guys have now teamed up and are convincing yourselves that you are funny. When you want to talk sensibly again feel free, until then I will eagerly keep an eye on the Mweb uncapped thread and await some responses to my queries (which you kindly buried with your crap) on here from someone who knows.

4mbps capabilities

Considering that on my 4mbps line I can download at 410kb/s and upload at 60kb/s, combined that makes 470kb/s ... so if I run this 24 hours a day, thats 470x86400=40608000kb per day ... take a normalized month of 30.4375 and thats 1178gb in a month.

I honestly think the Over Usage limits if they are to be "Reasonable" should start at about the "500gb" mark, not as low as 30gb. Seriously you can use up 30gb in not very much time doing legit activities. Playing Second life can use half a gig an Hour. Getting this sort of language from Afrihost, I am very glad I did not sign up with them, as then I WOULD feel cheated.

Afrihost is naive if they think users dont have a need to move data. I mean, if you watch hd clips off youtube, each clip of like 2min is like 30 to 50mb, you can use up over 1gb in an hour without really trying. The whole point of uncapped is not just for downloading, its for enjoying a broadband experience.

When the isps in the states tried to implement package caps, they had a huge backlash from their customers, and they were talking about caps of 250gb and 500gb, not 30gb, 60gb etc. Afrihost needs to keep in mind that what they are effectively doing is implementing the highly useless "rolling window" idea in a different form. If more than half of their subscribers quit and demand a refund, ill totally understand them.

IT IS SIMPLE REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want 1Tb of data every month and full 4Mbs speeds 24/7 then pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The offer exists out there!

What are your queries? I am on mweb uncapped, done 83 gb. Everything running amazingly well. What do you need to know?

No they do not offer 30gb uncapped accounts
No they do not throttle you after 30gb and block certain ports
Yes they have their own news server which runs as well as astraweb
Yes they do throttle pirated protocols during the day

What else do you need to know about mweb?

...by the way, a number of us quoted fair use policies of 30Gb or less from those much admired overseas ISPs you refer to. Do a little research and you will find this yourself.

Pirate port sounds better, its more in line with a pirate than a pirate protocol.

Official Afrihost Q&A Thread

You asked a question i answered it. Might not be official but it fits into the questions and answers thread :D.

Answer me this lance, how can be happy with this when no other company has a 30gb limit? Are you happy to pay more or less the same amount of money for less?

Thanks for that Gian.

I have a question.

I'm currently on the 384 uncapped (R197pm) package, so technically I'll never be able to do 120GB per month, 120GB threshold being when 4mb user are throttled down to 384, right? Why then do I not get my full line speed EVER? As it is I'm getting 25kb/s MAX through anything (Speedtest.net, ftp downloads, torrents, video streaming). Before I got uncapped I was getting 39kb/s consistantly.

I hope you can clear this up for me, thanks.

I still dont get it .. why do people support a company that WANTS to screw them? A company that LIED and tried to cover with more lies? To hell with them and their followers ... if you are happy with 30gigs then stop coming here.

Yip, that definitely is abuse!

You must be joking? What does it help you download a HD movie (Suppose to be high bandwidth lossless and good quality) reduced to 2GB? I a Fsucking joke and shows how little you really know. When the movies are ripped to that quality you may as well stay with standard DVD. Let alone the sound part of it which are 60%+ of the HD movie experience. May as well play the movie and sound on a car DVD player or a portable DVD player.

Anyway I hope Afrihost offers you the Freebie you are creeping for.

Afrihost played us for fools and got caught. Simple. Uncapped is just that. Uncapped. Else Mweb with their own backbone are a better bet. I want to watch a HD movie every night if I choose. I want to stream HD video from U Tube and Google. I want to watch live sport in HD from the web. Therefore the Uncapped requirement Do not try and sell me a product that is a pseudo "Uncapped" product and then throttle and limit me for it. It's just plain sick and something I would expect from "Chillie" not Gian.

Because they throttled EVERYONE, with capped or uncapped accounts ... they should stay away from the uncapped business ... they CANT deliver .. period. Their reputaion is something of the past.

AfriWho?

Get your refund and move along to MWEB or Imagine ISP, enough about the chatter - Afrihost cannot supply an uncapped ADSL connection for +/- R 500.00...

I don't think any of the IS based ISPs can - Afrihost just failed on the communication side - the rest are still to get there.

I think they've corrected their mistake by being clear with Gian's initial post in this thread - unfortunately, the damage is done for some.

I sure hope you are wrong dude, for some reason i have faith in mweb and i won't abuse the line so let's hope the others do not follow in afrihosts path.
