Official HTC One thread

Well, got tired of waiting for the HTC One to be released locally, so imported it from the UK. Ordered it on Friday and got it before 08:00 this morning.

Very nice phone :)

Wow.. that' awesome.. Such fast delivery. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it all cost including import taxes/ duties etc.? Also which retailer you order from? Expansys? Amazon? ...

That's awesome. Can we ask questions? I'll just go ahead anyways ;)

Ive read about battery life which is quite good, however what about the charging time? I heard this takes quite a while. Can you test to see how quick charging is on power saving mode?

Well, I only received it this morning, give me a day or two to test the battery and charging ;) Will let you know, though.

Was about R10.5K all told. Ordered it from Expansys and had it delivered with DHL.

One of my friends pre ordered the HTC One. Vodacom says ETA later this week or beginning next week. Well see.

Is that an official pre-order or a "name on a list"

I went into two Vodashops today to enquire about the One. They're clearly clueless and just pointed me directly to the S4...cool phone and all but it didn't do anything to tingle my nuts.

Did your friend say what plan he pre-ordered it with? i'm just waiting on confirmation on what plans the phone is going to be offered with. Was thinking of pre-ordering it this weekend.

Well, initial impressions of the HTC One are very good. The screen is fantastic, the performance is top-notch and the battery life is pretty good as well (at least as good as my Galaxy S3, lasted 1 day and 16 hours until empty with light to moderate use).

Put the phone on charge about 3 minutes ago, we'll see how long it takes to charge. Predicting about 2 hours.

After roughly an hour and 45 minutes on the charger, my phone's at 72% now. So it does take quite a while to charge. Not really much of a drawback for me, since I'll let it charge every night while I sleep anyway. But the S3 did definitely charge quite a bit faster than this.

Thanks for that. I guess the best thing to do if you need a quick charge is turn off most radios and turn power saving on.

I'm actually happy that it isn't some rapid charge battery that would damage after 6 months. If this helps preserve battery life then I'm happy to sacrifice a little charging time.

I'm bringing in my accessories through clove as soon as I have officially ordered. So damn excited.

Techno buffalo said this is the best android device and best phone they have ever used.

I'm inclined to agree. While the S3 was very fast, you could occasionally find some stuttering, especially switching between the app and widget drawer. I've been trying to get the One to display any form of lag, no success just yet ;)

Would most certainly recommend this phone, based on my very short time with it thus far.

And it just finished charging. My 2 hour estimate was quite a bit off :p 3 and a half hours, as it turns out.

From what I've read that last 10% or so takes forever.

No worries though. Mophie have just released a cover/juice pack for it if that's your thing.

Come on HTC! I want mine!

Yeah the last 10% took about an hour or so. Its standby is amazing, though, didn't drop from 100% in the first hour and a half after being removed from the charger.

Awesome. Thanks for all the first impression reviews. Sounds amazing. I also get a fair bit of stuttering with my S3.
What accessories are you using, if any?

Oh, another question.. your One has LTE correct?

None, just a naked black HTC One :)

Correct, though I barely get any LTE signal where I am. It's constantly switching between full EDGE, full HSDPA and one bar of LTE. Though this morning I was in a neighbourhood with better LTE coverage, managed to get over 20Mbit/s down on the Speedtest.net app.

Some more feedback regarding this phone:

Standby time is truly remarkable. Been off the charger for over 10 and a half hours (with only brief periods of screen on time to check for notifications and reply to messages, screen at max brightness) with Gmail, Exchange, Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp all syncing with push if applicable, on a very weak WiFi signal with power saver turned off and the battery is now at 91%.

I do wish the notification LED was a bit more visible from off-axis angles, such as on the S3. In the past I could just glance over to my phone on the opposite end of the room and see if there are any notifications based on the LED, but no such luck with the One. Though mind you, the speakers are pretty loud so I miss fewer notifications due to not hearing them over my music than I did with the S3.

Speaking of the speakers, they're fantastic. Definitely louder than any phone speakerphone I've ever heard (though not as ear-bleedingly loud as some of the reviewers would make them out to be) and with fantastic quality sound to them. They're not going to be replacing your 5.1 system anytime soon, but they do make it much more enjoyable to watch YouTube videos or have conference calls.

The constant power saver notification is a bit irritating (I know you can get rid of it by rooting or by force closing the power app), but you get used to it. Activating power saver doesn't have much of an effect on performance, though from my brief tests it only added about 10% - 15% or so to the overall time required between charges. I only need it to last until I get home so I'm leaving it off.

Anything else you guys want to know? :)
